| You can do yourself a favour and leave out anything after Warren's Reykyavik 24, as I sincerely cannot see anyone voting for a GU that came afterwards. |

| Then it wouldn't be entirely objective. Different people have different tastes. Anyways, there's tons of people who like 027, or 028. |

Actually, I would say that the only post GU: 24 installments that proved better than average were both produced under Warren, with Shanghai and Paris. Shanghai marked a stellar return to the series for Warren on both discs, and although the technical competency was in line with just about anything else he had ever done, I think it was due to the excellent track selection and sequencing that made Shanghai really special.
GU: Paris seems to have a lot more criticism directed towards it, primarily due to disc 2, and those are legitimate criticisms indeed. Although disc 2 stumbles here and there, disc 1 was nothing short of astounding, and probably ties the first disc to Reykjavik as the best disc in the GU series I've ever heard.
Aside from that, other installments worth mentioning are GU: 24 (of course) and GU: 013. But since this thread is intended to elicit just ONE favorite, it would have to be Nick Warren's Shanghai compilation. |

True that, Shanghai (esp. CD 2) is amazing. Didn't really get into GU 30. As for the other post-24-comps: Not worth mentioning.
All time top 5:
1. GU 13
2. GU 09
3. GU 18
4. GU 14
5. GU 17
(6. GU 24) |

It actually took me a while to appreciate and get into GU: 13, primarily because I picked it up at a point in my listening life in which I was looking for something quite specific, and just took a stab in the dark with 13. When I finally began to further extend my listening appreciation to different styles of EDM, GU: 13 was nothing less than stellar, and all the praises and adoration it has received throughout the years finally made sense.
As for everything else post GU: 24, I think Adam Freeland's take was creative and thoughtful enough to warrant some attention. It certainly wasn't by any stretch my favorite, and I doubt I would listen to it many times over, but it was considerably different than what had been going on under the GU label for the past couple of years. Maybe the series had grown stale enough for me such that anything different was a nice break. As for Layo and Bushwaka!, I've had my copy sitting in my rack for some time, and have not gotten around to it yet...so we'll see. |
