Was listening to this set today.. brought back alot of memories.
The mixing wasnt perfect but i enjoyed the set because of all the risks johan took while djaying. Alot of turntabilsm with trance in the mix.

Does anyone know any similar sets where djs take risks like this? or where simply fluid mixing isnt the objective of the set?

if so post them here in this thread.

You post the set first. :tongue2

There are no 'risks' taken in this set. It's just a bunch of tracks mixed together about as far from in key as you can possibly get; resulting in some of the test mixing you could possibly 'hope' to hear - from one of the test DJs that you could possibly experience.

I think I have the video for this. Good light show.

Johan gielen is a talented dj and producer. The set was alot of risks being taken hence the off key tracks and sub par mixing. Who cares, The tracks are banging in it and its a fun set that you dont want to fast forward through, because your bound to catch something intresting all the way through.

Why is he ty? because he headlines trance energy? because he's been producing since 1991 and djaying since you were 2 years old?

this is the set i was talking about

It was a fun set (didnt really like the MC in there)

but it was an innovative set. Especially the mixing between marco v recovered and beauty of silence. Anyways to each his own opinion. Im looking for sets that are like this, where the dj takes some risks and its not just about the flawless mixing. instead putting in the high energy tracks and avoiding those super boring fillers. keep the audience at their toes.

You're confusing 'innovative' and 'risky' with 'ing .' You can try and sugar coat it all you want, but at the end of the day, I could have probably mixed a better set when I was a 2 year old.

Rubbish.

first of all you don't even know the set im talking about. look at the tracklisting.

Anyways if you didnt enjoy it give me an example of something where risks were taken, trance and turntablism and cool .

What do you mean I haven't heard the set? How could I be commenting on it had I not heard it? I have the video as well as the set. Anyway, moving on.

Paul van Dyk - Live At Mayday (30-04-02)
Paul van Dyk - Live At Nature One (03-08-02)

There you go. There's 2 examples of a DJ who plays some trance taking 'risks' - whatever the that's supposed to mean anyway - whilst still keep a decent level of control. Especially at Mayday. And for the record, I am sticking to your definition of 'risk' here. As far as I'm concerned, in the real sense of the word, no such thing exists when it comes to mixing trance. Or not the type of trance you listen to anyway.

If you want to know what real 'risks' and innovation are, then get Westbam - Live At Loveradio (09-07-2004).
