I stopped harboring a secret belief that I was a genius. :p
I stopped being as self-conscious about my looks.
I stopped admiring people who pride themselves mostly on what they don't do and don't like.
I stopped looking for someone or something to "save" me or make my life perfect (giving up religion is the first step, but giving up "salvationism" may take a while longer). |

Maybe I was a lot more idealistic when I was younger, but I don't believe I've completely lost that either... I'm definitely way more cynical as of late, but maybe it's just a phase. :toothless |
I'm totally going through (or I might be on my way out of it now, I'm not sure) a misanthropic phase. I blame it on being so idealistic and setting my standards way too high for people...and then being horribly disappointed.
Actually, my frustration with people I think stems from my idealism. I genuinely DO believe in people's potential..and it's really ing aggravating to watch people going blindly through their lives, so goddamn unaware, and not ing thinking, when I KNOW they are capable of so much more!! UGH!
Anyways, yeah it's just a phase. But it's helped me cling less to my own beliefs/opinions/perspectives and be more flexible/changeable. There was a time (late teens/early 20's) when I really thought everything I thought was set in stone (lol, I love being wrong). I don't even know why...just for the sake of sticking to my guns. Stupid really.
I guess that's a lot of the reason why I still feel so young. I feel like I know less than I ever did, and I like that.
And that was my tangent, inspired by you.

| I've never blamed my youth for my silliness, and that's just perfect: the older I get, the more I get used to being silly :p |

I feel the exact same way.
Though I suspect it may not quite be a phase for me at this point. :P |

Misanthropy is amusing for small periods of time, after that people start to notice and threaten to lock you up.
I'm just sticking to being cynical and pragmatic. |
