Members of the forums at argnet.com and unfiction.com have investigated the background of the film, with the "1-18-08" section at Unfiction generating over 7,700 posts in August 2007. The members have studied photographs on the film's official site, potentially related MySpace profiles, and the Comic-Con teaser poster for the film.[13]

well the story goes (i don't know how they expect to unveil it in the film):
there is a company called Slusho that makes a popular soft drink in Japan. However, in the process of creating the drinks, there is a sizable amount of waste, which they decide to dump through a pipeline that goes off into the deep ocean. This waste causes a genetic mutation in a whale that causes the attack in the film.

i believe thats the only 'decent' view of the monster in this movie from the movie trailer. they're really keeping the monster very under the wraps. i hate myself for saying 'under the wraps' and i can't function this early in the morning
