Just wanted to warn you guys about not over exerting yourselves. My piano teachers wife just passed away after shoveling snow. shes always had headaches but yesterday after shoveling snow, she had a really bad headache and suffered an aneurysm. so if u guys have a history of headaches or other sorts of stress-related problems, dont over exert yourselves cuz u never know what and when it could happen.

When doing heavy activity during winter, keep in mind following points.

1. Don't overdress. You will overheat, causing dehydration. If you know you are going to be moving about, when you step out the door, you should be slightly cold. You will compensate later with body heat from doing activity.

2. Take off layers. If you find yourself getting really hot, or sweating, take off a layer, to avoid overheating.

3. Drink water. People tend not to drink during cold weather just because they don't feel thirsty. But ensure you get water into you esp. when doing heavy activity to keep your body hydrated.

4. Take rests. Don't over exert yourself. Take breaks every now and then.

Staying hydrated is the most important thing. It's the heat that usually makes people thirsty, and so when they're doing physical activity out in the cold, they don't bother to drink anything. Try to imagine lifting weights inside for an hour without any water; your body still needs that water outside.

Obviously people need to rest when they're under a lot of stress, but a lot of the health problems people run into in the winter are actually from dehydration.

^^thats really scary because I get migraines VERY often since I was a child........and I have been too stubborn against my family's wishes to get it checked out. :wtf:

Excellent message. My Uncle died from a heart attack 2 years ago shovelling snow, while his kids were watching TV inside. He was in excellent shape with no historical heart problems. A neighbour found him, 30 min. later, on his driveway. Heart-wrenching, so please pass this message to the older members of your families!!!

Why am I in such a "message passing" mood today?! :(

headaches, dizziness is first sign of dehydration

I've been getting a lot of headaches recently, even when hydrated.

I always tell myself to get it checked, but end up forgetting when the headache passes. Hopefully it's nothing serious... especially since theres a history of strokes in my family.

Dying after shovelling snow though... damn. :(

trust me. its worth getting checked out as much as we all hate going to the docs. i have a physical in a few weeks and im iffy on it, but i dont think i have much to worry about... i hope

Never would have thought that.

I get headaches for two reasons:

1) I needed glasses. Skwinting at the board in class usually did it to me.
2) When I have not eaten all day. My brain just gives up and lets me know by putting me in pain.
