Review: Saeed Younan @ Mod Club (pg. 3)

Great vibe in that room all night long. I think Neno played an excellent opening set... warmed up that room perfectly with a steady chuggy sound over the two hours he played. Saeed rocked the out of the crowd. The older I get, the more I get turned off by the 'bangin' sound but Younan laid it down proper for most of the night. I just wish I hadn't got completely intoxicated prior and during, so I could have appreciated it a little bit more. lol.

Tune of the night (for me at least)

Sandy Rivera - Freak (not sure the remix, but what a tune!).

Everyone knows I'm a very polite person, and I've never encountered anyone like that in my 3 years of partying.

Accommodating? I don't consider threats and unwarranted bitching/yelling to be professional.

And no, that was not the situation at hand...and she was NOT understanding. She wasn't even on planet earth... nor was she making any sense.

My situation was:

My friend was celebrating her birthday, and her friend was supposed to put her on comp list. She forgot, and the Glist girl didn't want to do anything about it in our favour. Fine, that's understandable in the industry. I still had reduced list for one person, and she gave me a ticket. Prior to this, I was also waiting on a friend to arrive who had a comp ticket for me. Since the bday girl wasn't able to get her comp, I was going to give her mine and I'd used the reduced ticket. We waited beside the coat check for my friend to arrive. The glist girl made a random appearance...spotted us waiting. I told her I was waiting for a friend for comp, and she yelled and said no. She was under the impression that I was trying to 'con' into getting a comp that I wasn't supposed to have. I tried politely explaining to her that this comp had nothing to do with the list more than 5 times. She just wasn't comprehending (I wonder why  ), and started to yell. I ignored her. Friend arrived, and she refused to give him the comp he was supposed to get for me, because she saw that I was his friend. I figured I did something to get on her bad side, but I can't recall being anything but nice. We managed to get the comp anyway from someone else, and we were about to enter the club and use it. And guess who was waiting by the cash handler? The glist girl. She screamed at us yet again..told the cash handler not to accept the comp ticket, and made my friend pay full cover.

She was really trying to be a bitch and make our night difficult...I mean who takes leave from their station, just to make sure we can't use the comp? Absolutely ridiculous.

So yea... get your head out of your ass. You should know me better than that.

Correction on your attempted correction. I know exactly who you are refering to, so nice try. Making fun of the guestlist girl's physical appearance? Calling her sketchy? Is that you in your avatar? If so, I wouldn't talk.

As for your rambling about the comp, your friend really messed up by not putting the birthday girl on the list. What do you expect the guestlist girl to do? It's a big international and EXPENSIVE DJ that the promoters have to pay for out of pocket. They are down thousands and thousands of dollars before the night begins, and good on the guestlist girl for being strict and trying to get people to pay to try and make the night profitable. If everyone were getting comped or scamming their way inside, guess what, nights like these wouldn't happen because the promoters would lose money?!

I mean , birthday or no birthday, it's SAEED YOUNAN! Pay the reduced and go inside. I've stood outside several times with the guestlist girl and I feel sorry for her sometimes, because she has to clearly deal with lost souls at times, and if it were a regular night (with just locals and relatively low costs), she probably would have let it slide and given the birthday girl the comp.

But it was an international DJ and you gotta be tight at the door, or else these events don't make money. That's why she acted harsh with your group, and deservedly so...

All your points are noted, and I fully agree, but have nothing to do with what I was complaining about.

You're totally overlooking my annoyance and point. It's not about my friend not being on the list. That was not the issue... like I mentioned, these things happen. The issue was that my comp ticket that I directly received from a promoter and had given to my friend was refused at the cash handler because the glist girl decided that we shouldn't be allowed to use it. She literally followed us sneakily and made sure we wouldn't be able to use it. She deliberately wanted to give us a hard time for some unknown reason. That's what I found unethical...and undeservedly so.

And I was making fun of her state of sobriety on the job, which I also found annoying, and not her direct appearance. I'm actually sober in my avatar as well, as sketchy as it looks.

Dude, I'm not getting into a flame war with you or trying to make you look bad, because you are doing a good job of doing so.

Clearly, you are a n00b when it comes to the club industry, so if you learn something from this, good.

You are making her seem like she was mangled while doing her job. Her bosses read this forum, so if they see someone talking bad about an employee, they might do something about it. However, you did admit that you and your friends messed up with the guestlist, so they will see you have some bias with your posts. (ie you are pissed off)

If your friend had made it on guestlist, none of this WOULD HAVE EVER HAPPENED, so your annoyance and point is negated, because it is your crew that ed up. You said she wanted to give you a hardtime for an "unknown reason" but haven't you figured out already that this was an expensive night for the promoters and they have to try and make their money back. Your friend wasn't on guestlist, yet you still tried to get a comp and then pulled missions (ie waiting in the club- go wait in your car or something) for a friend. That stuff is pretty shady, from a promoter's point of view (I am one).

Just realize, that you and your friends were wrong. From her point of view, you are just another one of the scammers who thinks they deserve to get in free everywhere they go. And based on your actions and response, you kinda proved that.

But anyway, back to the thread...

Once again, you are not paying attention to the issue...

Nope, this comp was arranged to be given to me before our problem with glist... meaning I would have had two comps if glist worked for her.

Nope. Stop trying to defend her because of whatever connection you have with her. Either you're really missing the point, or you're purposely trying to overlook the problem to save her from trouble. I made my points clear and in bold.

Now you're really being an ass. Yes, she could have and probably did assume that. I tried to explain to her that that wasn't the case 5 times! And I even had 2 promoters try to explain it to her as well unsuccessfully. For the record, I've only ever gotten in free to clubs less than 5 times in my lifetime, and I regularly club an average of 3 times a month. I like where you draw your conclusions from  .

I'm done here. I've repeated myself a numerous amount of times and I'm sure my point has gotten across to the other readers of this thread. It's obvious that you're trying to make me look like the culprit here and manipulate my points to save her. I could care less if her boss(s) read this. She disrespected us and I'm free to publicly display my annoyance.

Crib, BB - let's just leave it be. Chris, I'm sure management has read your complaint, and if you would like to write something formally - send it to me and I'll get it to the right people.

This was a great party, and one of the best vibes I've seen in that room - mainly due to the TA massive that showed up in a big way.... let's not taint the whole experience with the back and forth bickering. ;)

our GL girl puts up with a lot of and its often made worse by us promoters helping friends at the door and / or by our mistakes and forgotten names. overall she's pretty spot on and accommodating.

maybe she was wrong, maybe she was right. maybe she was having a really day, or maybe just for that moment. sure you can complain, thats your right. but its not too effective to complain here.

why not just speak to the promoter who you seem to be tight with and ask him or her to sort out a resolution? or maybe you can come on here and let everyone know about this ty situation. i guess thats what people use these boards for too.

but don't call her out as sketchy. whatever way you look at it, that's not cool.

we always appreciate your support at the gigs, so much so that you can probably get through the door for free from time to time. but man, don't knock the character of one of our friends. bitch about how she handled the situation, but don't fire stones at her bro.

Just be thankful that the Mexican Gino's didn't go after the guestlist girl and they went after me instead...

I'll admit, some of my comments in my first initial post were a bit out of a line and immature, so I apologize for that.

Now.. review time!

After the first successful tribal night at The Mod Club, I knew this second helping would be as satisfying. After getting in just after 12, the place was fairly packed. Similar crowd to last time, but with a bunch of birthdays being celebrated there were a lot more friends and TAs. I assume they've had the upstairs open for a weeks now, but I haven't managed to get myself up to there to see if any change was made. The sound was great again for the 2nd week I've been there in November. Issues where the sound barely reached the back are not much of a problem anymore. We spent most of our night in the side booths, and the sound was rockin' in there. They're going a bit crazy with the lights sometimes as others have mentioned. In my opinion, the visuals and the subtle stage lighting is sufficient. Tone down the lazerZ! haha. Speaking of visuals.. they never cease to amaze me with the collection of random videos that are portrayed on them. I find myself distracted a few times a night, which is entertaining. Some of them were really scandalous though!

I just had to record this, since the combination with the track playing made it awesome, hah. I managed to stay until the end, which was a quarter to 5 am. Going to work at 9 wasn't the greatest of ideas (at least it wasn't 5:30 am this time), but it was well worth it.

Took me a while to figure out who was opening for Saeed because of how intoxicated I was.. My mind told me that it was Addy...which then transformed into one of the vinyl junkies. lol. After focusing a bit, it was clear that it was Neno..and he played a great opener. A bit of variety, yet putting focus into progressive tribal. Couldn't stop dancing even while chatting and drinking.

I waited 3 years for this...and it took me 3 minutes to figure out Saeed Younan was playing! Definately deserved the all the hype that he got. He was really into his gig, and kept talking on the mic, which got everyone looped. The whole front of the club facing the stage was a zoo. I haven't seen this kind of jumping and hopping and yelling outside of the zone..it was great! Lots of great moves. I was pleased with Saeed, albeit, as Stephan mentioned before me, it was very inconsistent most of the time. Tribal tech bombers...followed by delicious melodic prog...and then a techier track would follow. This was the formula he was using. It gave my body some rest in between the crazier tracks, but the flow of it just wasn't there. Track selection totally made up for the lack of though. Like I mentioned in my first post, the only track I wanted to hear was Go Deeper...and I was shocked to hear it when I trainspotted it's first few seconds. I practically lost my voice screaming in excitement.

I'm wondering who Exposed will bring in next... I know Chus is on the roster for NYD. That should be intense!

It's good to see that you take some responsibility for your actions and your tone on this board. If you tried that guestlist situation at London, Guv, Embassy, Century Room, Lot 332, etc, the same thing would have likely happened to you or something similar. The bouncers at London and Guv especially have no tolerance for stuff like that, so they either woulda made you pay or made you leave the line.

But good to see you realize your mistake.

The review is pretty good...just two minor corrections...It's Ceballos playing on NYD, not Chus.

Also, first successful tribal night? Do you mean DJ Vibe? They've had more tribal nights than that one...personally, the Richie Santana Tribal (with some tech) night was pretty damn awesome...so even if you count that, that's at least 2 different tribal nights and then Saeed makes it 3.
