seriously

I used to be a huge boxing fan, but the last year or two I've gotten back into mixed martial arts, and unless its a big fight, I get bored very quickly with boxing.

I'd be rooting for Hatton, if anyone, because he is a better sport then Mayweather. Mayweather is a scumbag no matter what color his skin is. And no boxing isn't like the Olympics to me, it doesn't even come close in comparison to me. Why didn't you make it a race issue between Mayweather and De La Hoya, the fight I was initially referring to? Seems like you are the only person trying to pull a race card here.

Zack, if you met the dude in person, and have actually been a fan for a while, then you absolutely should root for him. i do not believe most people on this board heard of the guy before because he's fought 7 of 44 fights in the US. Until the show and this match, i would be willing to put my salary on the fact that maybe 5 people on here knew who he was. Most people have absolutely zero reason to root for some random british boxer from the UK. How else can people on this board relate to him, besides race. That leaves race as the most logical reason to root for him. everyone can be PC and say that's bull and that's fine, but it's probably not true.

to ad to my national pride thing, most people don't have a particular favorite boxer. boxing isn't a sport where that sort of loyalty attaches. therefore, most people pick the local or national fighter to root for. i don't see much difference if you people were rooting against the US in the olympics. , i'm sure non of you were rooting against him in 96 when he won the gold in atlanta.

anyone who follows boxing even a little bit knows Floyd's antics and that he is total a prick. Its not even just him. Look at the controversy that surrounds him, with his uncle (jumping into the ring in his fight against Zab), father, etc...I could have sworn Floyd even got arrested awhile back for beating his gf or something. He has always played the role of the bad guy, and he relishes it now. I don't think there is a fighter in boxing who I WOULDN'T root for over him. Doombot is right, you're the only one here thinking about race on this one.

and about the Olympics, I can't say I relate to that at all. When I was just getting into boxing, and didn't know much about fighters, I always routed for the guy who seemed like the more likeable person, or the underdog. I think thats generally the case with your average non-boxing fan.

i've been waiting for this fight ever since hatton called floyd out after the jose luis castillo fight!

i still have no idea who's gonna win though, i always said floyd will never lose but IF hatton can catch him and get him in the corner / against the ropes, floyd is gonna have some problems...

i guess we'll have to wait and see

i'm white, so i can't play the black-race card. de la hoya is for all intents and purposes and american.

everyone knows mayweather is a dick. but who cares? he's not a dick to you, and it makes for good entertainment. plus the guy is the most technically skills fighter at the moment. i don't know any true boxing fan that picks his favorite based on who is more likable. it's about the show, who displays more technical skill, has the speed, and can land the punches. also, there is always an awe factor.

basically, i'm trying to say that you guys have no vested interest in seeing hatton win. with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 ppl on here, noone even knew who the guy was until a few months ago. i just can't see why people would root for someone they don't know, except the obvious.

as for the olympics, i would love to hear a reasoned explanation (without the use of the word "I") as to why a fight isn't like the olympics. there are many aspects of a fight similar to the olympics. many fights are built up as a fighter from one country against a fighter from another country (same thing with MMA). it's part of the show. also, to a lesser extent, the olympics are mainly built on individual sports, the apex of the sport for many of them, amateur boxing included. Boxing is perhaps one of the purest forms of individual competition.

Why are you talking as if you know me? You just typed 3 paragraphs of nonsense. Would you just quit it already? You're not making any sense at all except for the fact that you obviously have more interest in watching people act like complete jackasses on television for your entertainment. Sorry, but that isn't why I watch boxing, football, hockey or any other sport. I watch it because there is a skill involved that I'm interested in and I also root for the more respectable person. Mayweather is a damn clown and seriously needs a wakeup call by having his mouth punched shut.

And you played a race card by making it an issue. No one here said anything at all to make you bring that up, but you did it anyway.

i've known about hatton since he fought kostya tszyu a few years back...

I think mayweather will win on a unanimous decision. Hatton's a great & very aggressive fighter, and he made Kostya Tsyzu quit on his bench a couple years back, but personally i think Tsyzu was caught off guard.
I must say that this whole racist on the thread is dumb as hell..oh well, threads will be threads.
