The (relatively few) anecdotes aside, this is a fairly comprehensive list of the bills and amendments sponsored by PDD's favorite godfather, Ron Paul:

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

A GUN FREE-FOR-ALL

-- He has favored all manner of other right-wing policies, in the following case with a single bill, which includes provisions for such things as supporting corporal punishment, requiring that young people seeking reproductive care have their parents notified, allowing churches and religious organizations that run "public" services to discriminate against potential clients, and moving us back to school segregation.

Of these, my favorites have to be the renewed US ownership of the Panama Canal (I thought we should get involved in foreign agression??? And who would that benefit? American big business perhaps?); pulling out of the ABM Treaty (or any other previously-honored treaty for that matter - because that would have no consequence for our reputation around the world or anything; not to mention that he wants to rebuild an American nuclear arsenal); the opening of national wildlife preserves and parks nationwide to coal mining and oil drilling; repealing the Clean Air Act and any other environmental legislation; backing out of any UN agency, including the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Food Programme, World Health Programme, High Commission for Human Rights, and Children's Fund; and in the true spirit of Dick Cheney, my personal favorite: H.R.5842: A bill to make all Iranian Students in the United States ineligible for any form of federal aid. But hey, he's nothing if not consistent. He doesn't only hate certain types of brown people. He hates ALL types of brown people. |

I don't understand how he tries to come across as such a compassionate guy that truly cares about the people, but hates government with a passion, yet wants to run for government on an anti-government platform. Yes government shouldn't do everything for us, but then private companies...local government doing the control? There needs to be controls..regulations, without this...you would just expect the free market to do this but who knows if the "Free Market" as he always talks about...is truly what should control the economy and our safety. Libertarianism does not work in a country of over 300 million people...there needs to be a central government.
Why work for a weak company? Basically..that's what he's doing...that guy who wants a company to be less profitable thus go out of business. That's kind of what he wants to do with the United States, limit taxation, limit programs, limit global involvement...it almost amounts to isolationism. But the pro life stuff...well he is more pro life than many of these professed pro-life republicans, so he's been quite consistent with that. He is an OBGYN and has delivered lots of babies over the years...that doesn't surprise me. |

Lower taxes mean bigger business, so what's wrong with that? I do believe he wants state's to decide the abortion issue, not the federal government. Isolationism? Hardly... Ever heard of Reaganomics? That's basically what RP is proposing. It worked beautifully in the 1980's, and don't forget that!
He isn't proposing abolishing the federal government, he's proposing to reduce it. Exactly the platform the Republican Party is supposed to run on, but has for some reason abandoned, thus why we call them NEO-conservatives. I guess Libertarians have become the true conservatives here in my opinion. |

For someone who rails against corporate interests in government, I "think the immediate answer is obvious. But let's look at the assertion. Lower taxes means increased purchasing power among consumers, which drives up demand. As demand increases, so do prices, and industries profit. So in reality, the consumers haven't really benefited; as Consumer Price Indexes go up, the corporations have. I take it that's fine with you. But for someone who hates inflation (I recall you calling it a "tax" itself, yes?), I would think you wouldn't want that.
And in addition, basic social services like healthcare, education, and investing in infrastructure will be cut if we lower taxes. But you won't feel that burden - the already disadvantaged will.

Wrong. Ron Paul, who is so "devoted" to preserving the Constitution, repeatedly has proposed adding an amendment defining life's beginning with conception. The Founding Fathers obviously needed some clarification there, but nowhere else, eh? Furthermore, his stance as an OB/GYN is so ridiculous - he claims that in his years of practice he never once heard of a case where a woman needed an abortion to save her life - apparently he thinks that women make it up in order to get out of having to go through child birth.
And in addition, Ron Paul won't stop at defining abortion on the national level. He wants to eliminate the ability of courts, both local and federal, to even HEAR cases regarding a woman's right to choose. Look it up - he's proposed those amendments countless times.

Don't give me the "he wants to de-centralize the abortion issue" line - his legislative record CLEARLY indicates that is not the case.

Aren't you an economics student? You've made some seemingly knowledgeable posts in the past, but now I am really doubting whether they were as sharp as they seemed. First, Reaganomics worked beautifully???? YOU'RE ON CRACK. I don't even know where to start tearing that assertion limb from limb, so if you want me to, let me know. I'm totally down for that fight.
Second, Ronald Reagan presided over the greatest expansion of federal government spending since FDR. Hardly someone I would expect you to compare Ron Paul to favorably. He was also the god-father of the neo-conservative movement; again, why in God's name would you think it a good thing for Ron Paul to remind you of Reagan??? Reagan was a disaster, and anyone who tells you otherwise is probably buying into a distorted history of the Cold War.

He wants to castrate it, not reduce it. Eliminating entire departments will vastly undercut the ability of government to do whta is expected of it. With no CIA, we won't just have "hit-or-miss" intelligence - we won't have any at all. And with no DHS, we won't just have "imperfect" national security, we will have a void. And with no USAID, we will lose any support we have in the developing world. International development assistance, however imperfect it may be in implementation, is the strongest brand of soft power the US can extend, and to cut it off immediately is not only ill-advised, but stupid. You can bet that whatever goodwill toward the US that currently counters anti-American recruitment brochures will evaporate.

All of those bills sponsored by Paul...READ them. What do they say? "Repeal, reduce, limit"...the power of the federal government. Eliminate agencies and policies that go against the United States Constitution...Eliminate wasteful spending and government agencies that use coercion and FORCE against Americans in the economic sphere.
Ron Paul believes in LIBERTY. His entire philosophy can be summed up in that single word.
You may want a nanny state big enough to protect you from life's little speedbumps, but not all of us share that idea. Some of us have this crazy notion that the purpose of government should be to protect our freedoms, not erode them. Government should defend the borders, maintain a sound currency, prevent theft and violence, but otherwise stay out of the way. This is what was envisioned by the founders, and it is what RP has promoted for 20 years.
