I bet that 80% don't need a reasonable battery life and a bit of consistency in the reliability as well.  Who cares though, it looks the business. :)

by the time the battery dies then there will have been several new updated versions of the ipod anyway... so it'll be time to get a new one regardless... |

ipod has less features, costs more and is more restricted than other mp3 players.
Why buy an ipod touch when you can buy another player that has a larger screen, higher capacity, plays more file types, records directly from the television, has a better browser, can stream media over a network FOR LESS MONEY?

Defenitly Iriver... 20 bucks more then a crappy brand and you get great interface and controls (S 10 pwns Ipod shuffle). Also a 10 band EQ is nice (rather then the preset ...). Seriously who wants a "rock" band EQ preset? I'd much rather have "crappy microphones" and "the preset guy was too busy fapping so heres some random eq settings". |

ya, the interface is incredible because its totally customizable. it's based off of macromedia flash lite so you can download user-created interfaces or even make your own. this is the theme i currently use:

and ANF... unfortunately, the clix2 doesnt have line-in recording :( that and expandable memory were the only 2 drawbacks about purchasing it. these were no biggies for me though since i was looking for a small compact mp3 player mainly for gym, running, and work. |

| well to be honest the in line option isn't nescessary for everyone but its a very nice feature to have. I record most of my stuff at home via laptop, but if you dont want to drag the lappy out its invaluable. |

Ferrari, way overpriced but gives a great driving feel. It costs more than equivalent performing cars. People still love them for their driving feel and smoothness.

So what's the driving feel of an ipod? Does it sound better than other players? Does it attract chicks? Does it make the subway train go faster?
While Ferrari has some features which indeed may appeal to car lovers, I can't see the same thing applying to an mp3 player.
Still this is a good example, since there are countless idiots who bought a Ferrari just to boost their ego.
The fact that the ipod is so succesful just proves that Apple has a really good marketing department. |

and really, what "updated versions" are there? how many ways are there to play an mp3? what exactly do you need an upgrade to your ipod for?
