| I use the bpm counters as just a rough estimate of what the bpm is. Other than that I just use my ears. |

well you actually have to move the slider about 0.6% to change one bpm so its impossible for them to be that acurate anyway |
.8% to be exact |

| Label your tracks bpm/key beforehand. |

count the bpm's yourself and label your :) |
yes, and
ableton is actually a good tool for this. just get the demo free and use the warp function to figure out your bpms to the nearest hundreth
if you label your you'll be able to pull your tracks out and mix in new tracks as quickly as you want to
eventually you will just know instinctively exactly how the fader relates to the music you're playing |

I dont understand this statement.
How else are you supposed to mix 2 songs together from 2 channels |

eq mixing is your friend
im pretty wasted right now, but i'll try and type it up for you when the underpants gnomes anrent trying to scoop out my brain with a pick axe:p
cross fader = for turntablists more than edm dj's imo
like adam said, when you get enough hours of practice under your belt you can actually get good at dropping tracks in on the first beat smoothe as butter. It takes time, but when you get to that point being able to play a track from the first beat makes for intersting transitions.
pps...im not kidding, with enough practice and knowing your tracks like the back of your hand, you can even mix sans headphones flawlessly. Take the time to train your ears and stick with it...it will come all by itslef one day, it is just a matter of time and experience. |

Or to put it another way, you will find that the majority of EDM DJs will in fact use the channel faders rather than the cross fader coupled with good use of EQ and tweaking of the gain.
I can't remember the last time I touched the cross fader for anything other than scratching. It is a logical step to want to use it but you will find that you have more control over the mix once you master the channel faders and the gain.
cheers

10 Mark cue point on track
20 Adjust to approx BPM on display
30 Hit play (or cue if this is your pref) when phrase starts
35 If beat locked goto 70
40 If beat on incoming track too slow goto 50 else goto 60
50 Adjust pitch slider up appropriate amount.
55 Goto 30
60 Adjust pitch slider down appropriate amount.
65 Goto 30
70 Adjust your eqs accordingly and await mixing point.
80 Be happy you own a CDJ1000.
90 Nail that mix.
100 If mixing another tune in goto 10
110 End
It's not rocket science. |

to my understanding there's no exact number. on estimate it can be between .8% and .6% per 1 whole bpm, but it all depends on the original bpm of the track. a .8% change of a 120 bpm track will give you a different amount of change compared to .8% change of 140 bpm. |
