I posted this in the other thread, but I'll post it here as well.
Say what you will about Musharref - the government hasn't toppled. I think the initial attack when Bhutto returned and now this show that her government (if elected) would have been very tenuous, and probably temporary.
"Even if I have to sell my soul, this country will have security." - Mobutu Sese Seko
The farther we come, the more Musharref reminds me of Mobutu, who was certainly a tyrant, but when he was ousted, the Congo exploded in war. I don't think the world can afford that in Pakistan. Which kind of leaves us with no clear solution there right now. |

LOL...she was corrupt and the reason she left Pakistan isi because they wanted to jail her for corruption and fundling money out into foreign bank accounts in her name. She was corrupt and was not good. Musharraf is oddly enough a reformer and not as corrupt of a leader. He is good for Pakistan and hopefully he can unite the army together and bring more control under his rule. |
hahahahahahahahaah
Kettle, meet the Pot. Pot, meet the Kettle:

....and this is coming from someone who supposedly thinks that Putin represents a great form of government? Here's your well deserved set of   |

It's just stupid. She stood up for what she (and many other pakistanis) believed in and it ends like this. I honestly see little to no chance of democracy for Pakistan in the forseeable future. |
LOL, no she didn't. You've obviously never lived in a third world country. |

no, just a backwards one. In our media, she's been made out to be such a good person, who stood up against the more 'evil' musharaff (sp) but again, we only know what our media tell us. |

Our media like media anywhere else in the world is essentially owned by a few conglomorates or major corporations. It's as full of it as anywhere else in the world. But it's a nice thing to see someone recognize propaganda for what it is, weather it's pro or con a policy, person, or idea. I think most people do at some level but for whatever off reason choose to ignore the elephant in the living room. No one likes to rock the boat when they have something to loose. |

I'd rather think that we're dealing with the latter. If it turns out to be the former, though, let me know ;) |

| I don't know whether Benazir Bhutto was popular with the Pakistani people. At least the media projected her to be, and also predicted that she would have won the elections. Why would Al-Qaeda eliminate her ? Surely that would be detrimental to their interests in Pakistan, considering that their top order is alleged to be hiding somewhere in the country. |
