Pennies (1 cent), nickels (5 cents) and dimes(10 cents) are the smallest. Then you have the quarters(,25 cents) the dollar the toonie(2 dollar coin). None of them are heavy. |
we need those 2$ coins... with our dollar going ot ... why not.. hell might as well start the legislation to start up a $5 coin... it'll take 10 years to get approved |

It'll probably end up being quite a bit.
What are the smaller coins like in Canada? I know they're all pretty small in the US, especially compared to our massive heavy small change coins here. Hence why I keep chucking them in the change jar rather than carrying them around. |
Our penny, nickel and dime are identical to yours (except the nickel is a little rounder, and the dime is a little thinner).
Then we have the one dollar coin, and the 2 dollar coin (loonie and twoonie).
The rest are all bills.
I never save coins... I just spend it the next time I go to the store. It's rare that I have any coin on me. |

As much as possible I avoid paying with coins and just dollar bills. I just hoard them and dutifully deposit them into my jar.
edit: if it's 10 cents, I usually pay with a dollar bill for example
I also run a ton of errands for my folks. They can't stand dealing with coins, so they let me keep it. Boy did it add up. |

Australia removed 1c and 2c coins from circulation in 1991. Our $1 and $2 coins are pretty light (not as light as Canadian $1 and $2 coins though - I have a couple of each), but our 20c and 50c coins are heaps heavy, and rather large in size. The 50c coin is 3.2cm wide, and the 20c coin is about 2.8cm wide. Both are about 1mm or so thick. |

We use rounding. If you go to a supermarket, you'll see stuff priced at $1.89, which gets rounded up to $1.90. Or, something priced at $1.42 would be rounded down to $1.40. |
