the ericson open and last years night tennis with paul oakenfold or whatever are NOT the same thing.
the ericson open is always in town the same time as wmc... but they never have anything to do with one another. first of all... the ericson open is on key biscayne and last years night tennis was done at the ice palace i believe in downtown miami. |
i don't think the OP meant the night tennis was part of the official tournament. but Sony Ericsson did put on the event....seems like they took the opportunity of both events happening at the same time to generate interest in tennis.
from an article about the event:
Sony Ericsson used the Miami Winter Conference to promote their new ‘night-time tennis’ concept this week, featuring flouro-clad tennis stars hitting UV lit balls in totally dark rooms with music provided by Paul Oakenfold.
"I'm a tennis fan, and a sports fan in general, and I loved the idea of bringing sport and music together,” Oakey told the Daily Telegraph.
“As soon as I was approached to do it, I was intrigued. Some of the ideas they have for 'Night Tennis' are really pushing the envelope."
The game involves tennis players dressed in glow-in-the-dark clothes smashing glow-in-the-dark balls on glow-in-the-dark courts, with giant video monitors providing more sensory illumination alongside Oakey’s trance music,
"This is all about being hip and cool," Sony Ericsson’ marketing chief Dee Dutta told USA Today, “"Somewhere along the way, tennis became more about backhands and forehands and lost some of its glamour." |

** if ** Cox plays Nikki Beach its never officially announced. he is booked exclusively to Ultra. Having said that, Mark Lewis who is a dj and throws the Mixology parties has been friends with Cox since they were like 14 years old. Many times he opens for Cox when they tour and several times in the past Cox did show up and play the Mixology closing party.....
the Mixology part is at nite...Beatport will be over by then so you can go to both. Personally I would not assume Cox will play... |

Sony Ericson was a host or sponsor of the event.
I didnt attend but heard it was a success and a very different take on djing in general having all that occur.
I dunno, with the response i got, maybe with the dates occuring in maimi that week and the success from last year, they might have another one. |
