I'll have to check it.
wasn't this copied in other provinces or Dalton did it here in response to what others have? a holiday listing for CIBC noted the holiday for certain provinces (like Alberta) and Ontario wasn't one of them (Alberta already has a Family Day as well, for e.g.).
The unions and regulated industries are mentioned here:
http://www.thestar.com/News/Ontario/article/292112
| quote: | ...Ontario's Employment Standards Act calls for nine paid statutory holidays a year, so many workers are being told they won't qualify for the new holiday – which falls on the third Monday of February each year – until it is negotiated in future contracts.
...
Others who won't qualify for the holiday include federal employees and workers in federally regulated areas such as airlines, banks and radio and television stations, although CBC employees in Ontario have been told they will be paid for Family Day... |
??? So I don't know wtf is going on. |

AFAIK, Family day is business as usual for anyone in the banking industry, for example...? |
I work for a bank and im getting the holiday off. Well part of the company is a bank and the rest isnt. But the company gives the holiday to all employees! |

As far as I know..the banks get it off.
I work for a Trade Association for the banks, and whatever days they get off, we get off, and we get Family Day off. |
I have work colleagues in Europe, and they have "banking holidays" several times a year... wtf is with that? I never understood it. |

the only complaint I can have with this holiday is when it is....if you are going to have a Family Day I think it should be in the summer when you are more likely to do something as a family. |

| the whole idea of february is that we dont get a holiday from jan 1 until easter. This breaks that monotony. Hey, ill take this holiday in spite of the usual whiners. And, i own a business so if anything it will COST me money. But i still say its a good idea |

| Wasn't it suppose to be called Prime-Minister's day originally? because U.S. have a President's Day? That would've been a better name for a holiday instead of Family Day |
