i'm in the same situation. so i just lost a floater day that i could take whenever the hell i wanted. booourns!

floater days are as lame as "im working from home" days. Period.

I'm all for the holiday (although highly unlikely I will get said holiday once I am finished school). I just can't believe that "Family Day" was the best we could come up with. Has Ontario become that culturally neutral?

Personally, I think Remembrance Day should have been upgraded to a Stat holiday.

Wow, even this thread has some strong undertones of a negativity. I dunno, I guess I can sympathize with those complaining of losing a floater, but not having that opportunity myself, I'm all for the new holiday. It definitely breaks up the monotony of the 4 months in between January and April. Further, as for all of the money that it will cost, I very much doubt that a SINGLE day will sink our economy, and if we exist in such a precarious balance that even one day will make an enormous difference...well it seems that would be indicative of other problems.

And yeah, kind of a lame name, but whatever, it fits right in with the standard politically correct, kiss-every-ass mentality of this province.

I love this holiday!

Don't have to use a floater day, and get the day off.

I already planned a trip to the US for that weekend! :D

I also lost a floater day, however I don't mind. I need more frequent rest days from work.

Yup. That was the first thing Dalton promised if he got re-elected...and he did.

The 3rd Monday of Every February is now "Family Day" and is a holiday for everyone but the police.

starting this year?

there should be atleast one stat a month. who set the protocol that we have to work like dogs anyway? As far as I'm concerned a 4 day work week would be just fine with me. So many people work 10+ hours a day anyway, relax, not going to matter when you're dead.

That's exactly what my team (mostly flex-workers (who work from home and office)) is proposing to management.

not everyone is actually going to get this day off, as Jay mentioned.

AFAIK, Family day is business as usual for anyone in the banking industry, for example...?

I work for an international accounting firm and we sure as are getting it off! :):)

I'd imagine bankers of course will too. This is a new recognised STATUTORY holiday. Why then wouldnt salary ppl get it off, ie. like at banks? :conf:

Wasn't it suppose to be called Prime-Minister's day originally? because U.S. have a President's Day? That would've been a better name for a holiday instead of Family Day

An Ontario holiday should have an Ontario name. Like Simcoe Day, or Yonge Day, or even Alexander Graham Bell Day..
