I was just thinking why there has been a lack of top ranked dj's coming to NEW YORK? ... Could it be that top ranked dj's are avoiding NEW YORK? |
Forgot about Sasha's shows here though (x_x). Kinda wish they'd do something good w/the unused space that was Crobar/Studio or Twilo/Spirit.. Haven't been over in that area in a while. Have they just demolished it all and put condos there?? |

yea but just cause a big dj is here dont mean its gonna be a quality event
west coast has a bigger trance scene
nyc has more underground,house,tech scene
when less known trance djs come to nyc its always half packed if that
thats why i was soooooo shocked when webster was fukin packed to the rafters for kyau and albert and ronski, i really hope things pick up
but yea i rememebr in the month of oct i did not have one weekend off
and at the last weekend i went to beyer/loco dice, following night was pvd, following night was lee burridge and they were all quality events i was shot lol |

Allow me to clarify on a couple points. When I say "Top ranked DJ's" I mean the top twenty on the DJ Mag poll. I'm not saying I like them, but that I notice they don't come here as often as before.
Secondly, when I say "here" I mean Manhattan. Not Brooklyn, jersey, DC, or new england.
My question is not about "where is good music?" or "where are good dj's" nor "only top ranked dj's play good music." You people drew that conclusion on your own. All I am saying is why hasn't dj's like Tiesto, Oakenfold, or Cox been to Manhattan recently?
What I am hinting at is that there is a dearth in venues to attract "top ranked dj's" in manhattan.
From what I gather, dj's take a break in the winter before the music conference. Furthermore, I do agree that the west coast has a more active scene. |

Like I said, please get your head outta your ass.
If you refer to the DJ mag top 100.....Out of the top 20, 18 or 19 of them have been here (MANHATTAN) at least once, if not 2-4 times in the last year alone.
If you wanna get into the top 20-100, a large majority of them have also been here. I dont know where you are looking for your information but you have missed a helluva lot of parties. |

SoCal gets Hernan Cattaneo 3 days in row... OC, San Diego, Hollywood/LA :whip: Sometimes 4 w/ another gig on Monday in Hollywood :whip:
Same applies to other good DJs. SF is lucky if we grab them for Friday or Saturday... sometimes it has to be on a Sunday
Then theres the DJs that ask too much (or agents) such as Astrix :whip: :(
As for NYC itself, I'm jealous at the double headliners sometimes. AM/CL + B&J, VD/BT/J:eyes:F, Three/Sasha and Holden/Underworld :eyes: esp the last one :eyes: Well at least we have Love Fest :D |

I was just thinking why there has been a lack of top ranked dj's coming to New York? Anybody else notice this? For the past few months and the foreseeable future, only pvd is scheduled. I noticed this after Crobar closed, but even Pacha sucks lately. Could it be that top ranked dj's are avoiding new york? |
Ok, I'm not going to try and sound too much like an ass, but your question regards dj talent and the one and only dj you mention in the entire post is Paul Van Dyk? Sorry... I dunno what else to say except for, plenty of talent passes through New York City on almost a weekly basis and it upsets me that I neither have the money nor the ways and means of getting there every week. |

There really ARE some amazing DJ's that have come through NYC recently or are coming in the near future...you just need to look harder--- I suggest places like Bar 13, Studio B, APT, Moomia and Cielo. Some great talent there! ;)
EDIT: T-3....2....1.... til this thread turns into a "Just because they are ranked high doesn't mean they are the most talented DJ" thread :haha: |
Actually, I haven't been to any of those places - so, touche! |
