Vocoding samples

Guys - Im confused..... (it doesnt take much believe me!)

Is it possible to recreate a vocoder sound (like daft punk - robotic style) using vocal samples.

For example - Im using Cubase, and want to change some vocal samples for a remix comp into vocoder style.

I have 'orange vocoder' but it just doesnt get the effect I desire (unless im using the vocoder completely wrong!)

Any help, instructions, ideas and which vocoder will be greatly appreciated. Oh - and if it involves me spending money, a sound clip of maybe a before and after would be greatly appreciated too!!

Thanks,

TMP

Surely it cant be that hard!!??

Or does the silence mean -

a)I'm talking rubbish, or
b) It cant be done?

Got an example of the sound you want?

It is all about the carrier sound you are using - this will give the tones you want from the classic talkbox to some weird darlek voices etc

daft punk don't really use vocoders, it's mostly talkboxes. i've never heard anyone get a talkbox sound out of a vocoder, with any carrier, but it might be possible with a few tricks. apparently talking through a harmonica works, but i can't see how haha.

What you need, sir, is a bass kazoo.

They said in an interview they use a different vocoder for every song.

Doesn't mean that they didn't use a talkbox on the vocals and the vocoder elsewhere :stongue:

Most people don't know what a talkbox is. Seeing as almost all Daft Punk tracks were blatant ripoffs (with a new kick and talkbox vocals), I don't blame them for claiming they only used vocoders. It stops people from discovering their "secret".

lol i had in my head for some reason the waves vocoder which has a talkbox preset but i forgot to explain this.

But even then a talkbox isnt a robot voice anyway. Some vocoding and ring modulation might work - maybe put the ring modulate on a send to still keep clarity?

Ok, Ok,

To save confusion. I mean something like -

THIS

If i had a normal vocal sample - could I make it sound like something similar?

Thanks guys,
