ive noticed that with the pioneer mixers ive used, the djm 500/600 sound best two in the red, and the 800 one in the red

some systems are set up in a way that being in the red will distort, not likely in my expierience though, or maybe im just ing going deff

If they can't watch their levels, what else aren't they watching? :)

Good question....
i got big pants
i definately don't go into the red...in fact, i get all anal when it goes into the yellow for those random peaks in songs. so no worries about that.

one more question regarding speakers...i have some krk's, what i did before was that i turned those up all the way, and had the master on my mixer almost at 25%. is that a good idea or should i have my monitors at about half and the mixer at half?

i am not really sure, but i'd put money that having the gain all the way up is not a good idea. i'd say half and half is the best way to go.

I have some KRKs too and I do exactly that with my DJM800. I see no problem with it.

you generally want the input sensitivity on your monitors as low as possible. this way, you arent amplifying a weaker signal as much. every amp has it's sweet spot though. you will often find the sound goes to at either extremes.

looks like people are finally waking up to the concept that a mixer with multiple internal analog-digital conversions isn't a wise idea.

Go for a quality analog board... Rane, Allen&Heath, Ecler, etc.

+1. When the marketing BS subsides (along with the novelty of those horrible toy fx)and you are left with a sub-par quality mixer, people will go back to quality analogue mixers.
