Yeah Sven ain't what he used to be :(

The tracks theory could be true, there's a lot of crap out there, but if you look long and hard enough you will find absolute gems, that's a guarantee. Masterful producers are still out there.

I agree, but is it an excuse really for the djs? Does having more tracks in circulation mean djs should play more regardless of how they sound?

I find lot of headliner sets are indistinguishable from other djs sometimes. It's like they whore the hot tracks which can be safe or unsafe thing to do, imo. I dunno if it's just giving what the fans want but not what they need. And I guess when they are literally all over the map with their crazy scheds the incentive isn't there on a daily basis. Not to mention there is pressure to keep promoters happy too.

Also the internet makes it instantaneous for a dj to purchase that hot track if he/she hears it's getting good reaction from other gigs.

Question for you guys: are djs becoming increasingly more and more protective of their live sets? I find these sets can make or break the expectations one may have for said dj. If a dj has an incredibly on or off day, that could raise or lower the standard for his upcoming gigs, since all we would have to do is listen to a recent set over the internet to get a bit of an idea of that djs current performance level and tracklist.

Of all the music i have at home....the best sets i've heard are still live at a club.

No excuse at all for the DJs. It's really what Haki said, the age is getting to them and new guns are coming.

'What? Call me album humus?' hahahahahhaha how are you dude??

This has been bugging me for the past little while...What the fuk is the deal with the direction all my favorite DJs and producers are going??? Every Diggers transition mix, Sasha mix, Coxy global mix, and even Lawler now, is sounding worse than ever (imo). What happened to the days where a diggers transition set would get you going so hard it would pump you up for anything? Or the Global coxy set that was such driving deep dark techno you were terrified after? What are all these bleeps and samples? What happened to the long hard driving bassline? Does anyone rememeber in Groove where diggers throws on heaven scent and the crowd goes bull? (okay I don't know what that has to do with anything, but its a good scene nonetheless!) But seriously is it just that all my faves are evolving into robots? I mean they must be to take pleasure in listening to this confusing dribble. I suppose i'm just nostalgic about the days of DJs making you dance so hard you have to take a break to catch your breath...Now i haven't been to a gig in a while, but have every live set or mix that is available on the net up to date. And they are getting worse and worse. I haven't heard a set that had me moving my head to throughout in a long long while (from my faves). I'm finding myself online looking for sets that i'll like, but its hard to accept the idea that all these djs who i followed for years and saw many many times live are evolving..But maybe I just don't get it. I tell you one thing though, if sasha and digweed played the they are playing now in front of the buenos aires crowd of 2006....Lets just say it wouldn't be much of a video.

Someone explain this to me. I miss my faves.

Bleep burp bloppety bloop.

I think it's time someone goes back to his roots ...

Edm is like that; it goes into circle. Not to say that what dj's are playing now is not good, but it's not "party" music. It doesn't give you the drive to want to go out and party and drink yourself to death while you dance to some phat beats. When those times happens, you have to go back to the first genre of Edm you loved. Go back to your basics. I know i've been listening to Chicago house like a maniac for the last couple of weeks/months. Get me going, give me energy.

Not that the big guns are not good, it's just that they've evolved into something that they are not. Diggers used to have some dark and twisted stuff but he always had some sort of "trancier" elements in his sets (he never was able to let go of his trance roots) now he's just dark and twisted. Same goes for Sasha, Cox completly forgot what techno was all about, and, to be honest, i think most techno djs forgot what techno used to be. Granted minimal is GREAT and i love it but, like every other style, there is a lot of crappy minimal out there mainly because it's the trend of the month (year??)

Can't wait for something new to come out ...

ninjastars :D

and to Krink :

Good call. Its a shame that the styles of music will outlive the djs.

Never thought i'd see the day where coxy played minimal.

Djs are getting old; Their ears are becoming weaker and weaker after such long careers of gigplay. Furthermore, they lack the energy to invest towards a creative edge, the edge they once had in their youth. Once you get yourself up there, its easier and easier to get lost in the business/money side of things instead of music, and this will ultimately send you back to the background. Perhaps it is because they anticipate retirement, or perhaps because they fail to realize that it is indeed the artistic youth who not only shape but also influence the future; it is the underdogs who think in new ways, it is them who try harder because they have to, it is them who are beat-hungry. Those bignames who adapt to this fact about the underdogs always remain in that competitive edge and will always have a dynamic(young) following.

Sasha and Digweed tore it up @ Pepsi Forum, and about sets from the net, I don't enjoy so much as well(esp minimal). It is great at a rave, but not at home it just isn't the same.

As for Digweed sucking now????

Comeon only 2 month ago he came out with that crazy live set from the Warehouse Project @ Manchester....

Hands down the best Digweed set I have ever heard...

g u need to listen to s&d on a BANGING soundsystem to understand their talent

84th Ave.
its like people mentioned, EDM goes into circular patterns, right now, all the hottest DJs are playing tech house stuff, a sub genre of techno, it's hard to keep up with sets that are fast in BPMs, tires you out. Personally i love what Cox, S&D, Lawler all play

Also, where you see DJs has something to do with it, for example, Cox will play more technoish in Europe, more house in North America, even S&D will have a little difference in styles when they play in Montreal or in South America...

Smart DJs play accordingly to what the scene is in that city/country

I think this is my favourite year for Digweed since like, 2000 or so. Honestly he's been on fire IMO, absolutely banging sets.

I do agree with a lot of what's been said though in terms of other names.
