He's now the main headliner above Portishead and Kraftwerk on Saturday. Bleh. I guess I'll see him, if there's not another artist playing during his slot that I find more interesting. To be honest I'm not that big of a fan, aside from Partyman...

I heard that Prince's live shows are amazing. Really great show and performance and this was coming from someone who isn't really into him, but had great seats to see him.

I hope so for the people that go, because a lot of Coachella talk goes on around here (as we do run mp3.com) and every person here who has seen him in concert (roughly 20 peeps) say it was the most boring concert they've ever been to and you would may be here one or two of his well-known songs while the rest left you lost cause you didn't know what they were and they weren't that good, hehe. Even the radio hosts (on Energy 92.7) who were talking about talked about how horrible he is live. Person on the radio talked about how Prince came out and said "it felt like a jazzy night" and played 100% jazz songs and not one of his well-known tracks.
I have always wondered why people like Prince, though. I don't think one of his songs is remotely good, lol (sorry, my tastes). But these days, I think he's just a funny person after hearing the infamous Kevin Smith college speech on YouTube a couple years back where he talks about, in extreme detail, how it was working withi Prince and his people when he was hired to do a documentary on him and shoot a bunch of music videos that have never seen the light of day! I kinda want to see him live just to see how odd it is, hehe...

The one thing that I prefer in a live performance is that artists play something that they don't normally do. I don't want to see them stand there and do exactly what I can hear if I press play on half of their albums. Play something rare, rearrange your popular songs and do different versions of them.
That said, the songs you do play should still be good. :p When I told a friend of mine that Prince was added, he said one of his friends saw him play only country music during a concert. :nervous:

Country? lol
I don't think people realize that Prince has dozens and dozens, I wouldn't be amazed if a couple hundred songs that have never seen proper release...I think he will do these in concerts only because they all said a lot of the songs he played have never seen the light of day on any album.

Damn, I just realized a reply I totally made and was in this thread at one point is gone!
Anyhow, amazed no one has talked about how much Prince is getting for this gig....
You think DJ fees are stupid...
Prince is getting...
$4.8 Million!! Not $48,000. Not $480,000. But $4,800,000
Heard on the radio that 3 day tickets are pretty much not selling because of the lackluster lineup so they decided to fork this money out for Prine.
Stupid. Don't see how it's a smart business move to push 3 day passes.

I call MAJOR bs here. After all, the 'source' is someone from Perez Hilton's camp
Another 'source' had this to say: "Madonna, was only paid $1 million to play Coachella last year. The highest paid act so far has been $1.5 million for Rage Against the Machine to reunite last year."
$4.8 million makes absolutely no sense. Don't be so quick to take this seriously.

Prince was pretty cool at the Roosevelt last year (those $1,200/ticket shows); my friend is a bartender there.
i'll see him if he doesn't conflict with anyone else.
Should we have a rollcall thread?
