Traktor 3 with a Four Deck Controller?
View this Thread in Original format

so im looking into the laptop transition

prolly gonna go with traktor 3 (need four decks) but my issue is i cant seem to find a controller that will run four decks

do i need two to make this happen?

any tips are appreciated

how come you're interested in tracktor? I haven't used 3, but I had a bootlegged copy of the one before to try it out. I found when you increase or decrease the pitch more than %2 it s with the track and makes it stutter.

I use Traktor and have no such problems....

As for controllers that will handle 4 decks... the Xone3D comes to mind, you might want to consider getting 2 controllers controlling 2 decks each.

I would suggest you hit up the Native Instruments forum and ask other Traktor users what controller they recommend...

ya the 3d is a lil much
was thinking about the 2d but i dont see any pitch control on there

owen havent experienced the problems you speak of

A whole slew of controllers just came out at NAMM. The Vestax VCI-100 is probably the best for Traktor use (been out for a while, but they did just make a few revisions to it). It does NOT come with an integrated sound card, so you'll probably need one of those as well.

Now I know that it only has 2 sets of jog wheels, deck controls, etc.

HOWEVER...

Do you intend to scratch/control all 4 decks simultaneously (I can't see anyone pulling that off)? You can use Traktors deck focus ability to move the controls around to any of the 4 decks at the touch of a button. So you can kick off a track on one deck, and move the control to another and that first track will continue to play.

The Xone 3D/2D are kind of odd. I owned the 3D for a bit (using it with ableton), and the layout and poor soundcard drove me away. The 2D has a much, much better soundcard than the 3D (go figure), but again it's layout isn't particularly good for either Traktor OR Ableton. Ahh well. More a supplementary controller IMO.

I use Traktor 3.3 combined with Traktor Scratch, and I have it all connected up to my 2 CDJ-1000's and 2 Technics SL-1200's... all 4 decks running with timecode. Works very nice, has been very stable.

Is there a huge difference between VCI-100 and VCI-300?

Iam really about to give this thing a try,but I have a question first for those who might have tried this.

Will I be able to Cue tracks in my headphones? and have a master connected to my amp? basically I want to be able to beatmatch in my headphones without having a monitor? since this thing has a USB will I able to do something like that?:p

Any other suggestions? I wanted to get the Allen&Health Xone3d but I cant afford that now.Is vestex the best choice and I ll be using mainly Traktor and possibly ableton in the near future.

The VCI-100 is a midi controller, the VCI-300 (which isn't available yet, I think) is not a midi controller and uses a new technology which is exclusive to Serato Itch (it is supposed to be faster and more stable than midi but who knows...)

As for cueing.... The VCI-100 is not a mixer it simply used to control w/e software your running. It connects directly to your computer and no audio cables are actually routed into the unit itself.
What you will need is an external soundcard to interface the audio from you computer to the speakers and your headphones.

I use the VCI-100 to control traktor (with a modified .tks file to control all 4 decks) and sometimes ableton and it works perfectly for me.... You might want to familiarize yourself with the Native Instruments forums because it sounds like your a beginner. Some people swear by other controllers but I prefer the layout and design of the VCI-100....

Got it,so basically getting one of these wont really do what I want to do then, since Iam not just looking for a controller,I would need a device were I can do my mixing/beatmatching in my headphones, and at the same time I want to control traktor/Ableton with it and since VCI-100 is just a controller it doesnt allow me to do that because it is lacking connectivity.
Something close to the Allen&health would do the job since it does come with actual sound card with it,therefor would allow me to do beatmataching inside my headphone without effecting whats being played in the main output like a actual mixer.

Exactly!!so is there anything out there that can do that?aside from Xone 3d?

p.s. thanks for all the help btw:p

Iam not that much of a noob but I did audio engineering and dont know much about djing :P

Nah, the vestax units are EXACTLY what you want. With the VCI-100 and a sound card (like the audio 8 DJ), and some headphones and speakers, you have everything you need to beatmatch, mix, etc.

The advantage of the new 300 (which isn't yet available) is that you don't need an external soundcard.

Getting a Xone 3D to control Traktor is WAY overkill, and it's not even laid out properly to do so.

Ableton is a whole different ballgame. You'd probably want another controller for that specifically.

Check out the faderfox controllers, or the new Vestax VCM-600 (also not available yet).

Also look on youtube, search for VCI-100, Xponent, etc. See if they are what you want.

I think Iam going to wait and see how the new 300 is like and go from there ;)

I actually thought about this today and I think you are right about the fact that having seperate controller for Ableton live is the best way to do it.

yup just did some research about Xponent and saw some deoms on youtube, and to be honest it looks like it will do the job, only thing I didt like about it was they looks so in cheap man lol

I also fount out the Numark is coming out with a new toy called NS7 and it looks sweet,I have no clue when it will come out but I will keep my eyes on this badboy. :)

so right now Iam keeping my eyes on Xponent,vci-300 and NS7.

If anyone here has tried Xponent or vci-100 please feel free to give your opinions on it.
:D

I agree with the cheapo build quality of the Xponent. There's been quite a few problems with them crapping out :(
