So let me get this straight...."you canceled your show" (It's an Elevate show, and D:FUSE is the headliner, not you) in Dallas to go play in Austin, when you told Steve and I it was due to a work conflict with a new job you were taking? Not only have I spent $160 printing flyers as well as spending about 12 hours of my time designing the flyers that had your name on it, Steve just sent a new order in that's costing us another $160 so we could have the correct lineup on there because we had to REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE LINE UP.
It would have been one thing if you just were up front and honest about your intentions or issues, but you just cost us money, promotional time, and a local DJ to fill the slot we set aside for that might actually have some crowd pull for the show because of it. Pretty obvious that this wasn't about a job conflict, but about you bitching about the time slot you were given for the show, just as I suspected from the first time Steve gave me notice about a possible conflict.
Sorry man, we're friends but that's a dick move and very unprofessional. |
No it's not a DICK move. I will not be playing there @ 9 pm.
Lets see yes your a friend. Dick move is NO communication. I called Steve and let him know that i can not be in town untill 10 pm. I cant be in Austin till 10 ING PM. I DID NOT reference that this was my show any how. I Let ya'll (Elevate)Have plenty of notice that i will not be able to make it. No one from (elevate) bothered to even say hey this is your time slot we have already told everyone else what theres is. Everyone knew there time slot but me. Again i call Steve and told him that i will not be able to make it. Yes i did have a problem with my time slot but oh well. I would have played from 10 to 11 if i wasnt playing for nothing. But to play for free and only play for an hour is not worth the airfare, cab, hotel. Atleast i ing called you Steve (Elevate) whatever. and ing told ya'll my issue. Being a DICK would have been waiting till the last ing minute and saying thats my time slot, ah that im not coming. thats being a dick. Thanks for your time thanks for your kind gesture in actually booking me sorry if you feel like i wasted your time. but i dont see how i did.
Now i am avaliable to play that date now and if it works out i am going to play.
I DIDNT WASTE ANY OF YOUR MONEY. YOUR TIME. I had the decentsy to let ya'll know my conflict.
I thought Elevate was more professional than to make an assumption like this public. IMO
Thanks |

1. I guess you forgot about our phone conversation from two weeks ago where we discussed that you would A) be playing for two hours, not one (which you have known from the get go, don't try and act like you didn't), and B) that if you couldn't make it there to play the 9-11 time slot that we would switch it to the 2-4 time slot if we could arrange it with the others on the line up. You said you would get back to be regarding, never did, and now I see this.
2. Don't even try to make this come out as the "promoter doesn't pay his openers" . First, YOU asked Steve to add you to the line up so you could start getting your name out, which he gladly said OK. YOU said you would take care of your own trip. YOU said you would play for free if that's what it would take for us to add you to the line up. Second, you know good and damn well how we operate, and NOT PAYING an opening DJ is not how we work.
I'm done discussing this publicly. |

i just went through some BS. but right now i have to say through my djing experiance in houston and austin and some in dallas that as an underground music DJ you WILL NOT make anything worth travelling from city to city djing until you have built an insane reputation for playing good music. we all play good music and sharing it is what the underground is about. as far as trying to make a living off djing EDM in texas... itss not really happening as long as you do more than djing to contribute to our community. sorry ben u are a good dj. but we all dont make putting this scene together. it has and always will be about sharing music not about thinking you can pull a decent crowd. thats why we all have an outside job to financially support our love for this genre of music.
my two cents. dont hate me. |
