I would never judge someone by their number of sexual partners. It's just not a good indicator of one's personality. And all the self-righteous idiots need to get the out with the moral bull. Notice how conservatives are always the quickest to judge you?

Isn't a particular pickiness in whom one chooses to sleep with a mark of good character? I mean maybe I am old fashioned, but I don't think appreciating that means that I'm either self-righteous, conservative, or an idiot. Otherwise, why not date a hooker? Or a gigalo? |

I dunno. I see it this way: if I'm about to enter a long-term relationship with somebody, I'd be wary if the person either (a) had just flings and one-night stands as their primary sexual experiences or (b) been ing around on people a lot. In the case of a person my age, a very large number of sexual partners generally means one of those two things. |

Standards for the sake of standards are one thing, but standards for the sake of some arbitrary moral principle are another. I don't care if you are really picky, or prefer to screw everything with an even number of legs; it doesn't make you a good or bad person, and in my humble experience is not a mark of someone's character at all. Some of the most good-natured people I know are very sexually open; others aren't. Why judge someone's character by their actions when you don't know the true motives behind those actions? Good people can be sluts and evil pricks can be catholic priests :p. |

I think it's mostly an issue of trust. If you're dating somebody whose normal operating mode is "screw and go," how sure are you really going to feel that they won't treat you the same way?

How is it arbitrary? It's not standards for the sake of standards, it's standards for the sake of choosing company with people who share common values. For those who have them, it's important. Just because YOU don't judge "open sexuality" as a mark of character doesn't mean that other people shouldn't.
I am very judgmental when it comes to who I date and whom I choose to have sex with. Shouldn't I be? I don't tell other people how to live their lives and I don't judge friends or people I meet. It's just for me and the women I sexually interact with. |

Live your life in the best way you can and do what makes you and others happy. A difference of opinion does not mean one is wrong and the other is right. The mindset that works for me does not work for a lot of people, but that does not make me a better person. It's all in how we define 'character'. In my definition, 'open sexuality' does not contribute to character, so long as the person is honest about it when it matters.
