i've spent already a serious amount to get it fixed, if you get a car get a brand new one, worth it. |

hmmm....
I'm leaning towards scooter even more.
I live and work downtown. A car would be so not not be practicle and would be a waste of money. I would really only drive on the weekends and would probably still end up cabing it to and from work every day.
Not too mention that a scooter would defintely have less of an environmental impact... |

I hopped on the bus on campus today, about 5:15, heading downtown... pulling right out of McMaster I saw a guy with a backpack, headed somewhere... on a UNICYCLE.
Bona fide unicycle.
I thought I was hallucinating. Has anyone else ever seen people travelling around on these things? W.T.F. mates... |

I see a guy on King West daily when it's warm. Odd to say the least. |

people who bike in the winter are Darwin awards waiting to happen.
the roads are slippery. bikes don't have good balance. one slip and you're ed.
esp. people who ride bikes with headphones on. can you be any more stupid?

If you're living downtown, then honestly get a scooter.
And parking tickets are now 30 bucks a pop - that adds up QUICK. |
I racked up $600 of parking tix in 1 yr in TO alone:nervous:
Scooters are NOWHERE NEAR gay, in fact they're in wikkid for SOOO many reasons as others have mentioned.
Biggest bonuses imo are incredible gas mileage and free parking.
Once again, if you live downtown or anywhere near, this is a NO BRAINER |

To get a car, you need to drop some serious cash up-front (at least a 2-3K) if you're leasing, more if you buy used outright. After that, regardless, you will have insurance and gas costs.
Leasing something new and decent:
* 4K upfront
* 250/month lease payment
* 150/month insurance
* 100/month gas (probably more)
* 200/month parking downtown
Net: 700/month payments
Buying brand new/used:
* 5K - 30K up front
* 150/month insurance
* 100/month gas (probably more)
* 200/month parking downtown
Net: 450/month payments
So now you see how much you spend on taxi's and is it worth it for you. Another point to consider is "what" are you going to haul with yourself when you're on a scooter/bike/car - is it craploads of stuff, or is it just your backpack?
Other people have mentioned zip cars and such. I believe they're about $10/hour of usage, everything included - not a bad choice for occasional user.
EDIT: Yes, I own a car. No leasing / financing - just plain own. Moving downtown soon. If I find out that I don't use it that much, I will sell it. |
