Guys I think you are all forgetting that this is his first experimentation with the team and is trying out different players for a particular formula of his and is only a friendly game. I think the idea of leaving Beckham and Lampard out is a good decision and seems to have selected a fair few young players which is a good thing as most of the veterans are getting old.

Lampard is recovering from an injury, so he's obviously not being called up for this friendly.

As for Becks, I agree with him only choosing match fit players

England manager Fabio Capello has opted for experience in his final 23-man squad to face Switzerland next Wednesday. Capello has cut seven players from his original 30-man provisional squad - two of them, Emile Heskey and Ledley King due to injury. The other five to miss out were Curtis Davies (Aston Villa), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth) Nicky Shorey (Reading), Michael Carrick (Manchester United) and Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough).

Capello really cares about winning! He dropped Carrick!

Agbonlahor picked up a hamstring injury it appears against Fulham :( Was actually looking forward to see him get tested at international level.

seriously? Michael Owen?... i mean seriously? wtf is cabbageman capello smoking?

Michael Owen match fit = Goals. The past few games he partnered Heskey they both looked a very good pairing.

Only good thing about Carrick is he can pass a ball well. He is not a complete midfield player though he hardly gets stuck in and his not playing box to box.

Midfield wise he needs to start with Gareth Barry and build around that. As Barry hardly gives the ball away, can pass, can tackle and covers ground.

I cannot believe that Steven "Stevie G AKA cheating diving cunt" Gerrard has been named captain, he wouldn't even be in the squad if it were up to me, never seen him perform for England

David James is the best keeper in England right now so hope he starts

As for Beckham, despite his celebrity status, he's been one of the (very) few England players that have actually shown a bit of passion and commitment to the team, and I think he definitely deserves his 100th cap, but if he's not at full fitness it shouldn't be just for the sake of it. I'd like to see a friendly arranged as Beckham's testimonial because he's earned it

Gerrard put's half efforts sometimes his good but very average most the time, I admit he annoys me fair a bit when playing for England. If he put in as much effort for England as he does for Liverpool then he'd get some praise of me.

James deserves to start but Greens not been picked which I think it's poor choice on Capello's behalf.

Beckham don't deserve a chance until his back playing for his team I agree on giving him a testimonial, but not untill his match fit.

One good thing I read in todays newspapers is Capello's not treating them like superstars. You have to be at breakfast at 08:30 sharp, you get called by your surname, the wags can't go on trips with them. A hundred percent discipline the way it should be. Ferdinand has said in the newspapers it's like being back at School, no more holidays for you Rio or programmes with you pranking your mates.

That's excellent. Bout in time too!

That's been the sole problem imo for England since, well, since the Premiership started! They're all more interested in being a celebrity than being footballers, ironically with the exception of Beckham who I reckon cared about being a footballer more than everything and had the celebrity status shoved on him for being good looking as well as being a great footballer!

before leaving for the la galaxy he played a good 4 games with madrid...

not good but exellent. So its not like he is past his prime and does not care... even though moving to a shiza team shows that you care not much about the sport i guess. But for 250 million dollars i would of probably done the same ;)
