ing great mix mate.
My only issue...?
You have track 2 labeled as 'Underworld - Dark and Long'.
Am I tripping? I didn't hear that track anywhere in the mix :conf:
I have been drinking, so I may be wrong...? |

Absolutely fantastic mix! Every transition I thought I was going to lose my mind as I heard the next classic come in (when I heard Water From a Vine Leaf start I about crapped my pants)...incredible stuff. Great flow too. And hot damn, your closing track! I will be giving this some more listens to be sure. Please, please post more stuff like this!
Now on to listen to your '95 Epic House mix... |

Heh. You didn't hear the Dark Train mix, which is what everyone thinks when they read "Dark & Long". I used the original mix from the album Dubnobasswithmyheadman. You can hear the lyric "Kiss you, kiss you, dark and long" several times.

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure if the way I brought Water From A Vine Leaf in was effective. I wanted to bring it in out of the breakdown of Ethnic Prayer to give the moment some drama, but I honestly couldn't tell if it worked or not.
Thanks to both of you for your praise. |

Great stuff this, thoroughly enjoyed :D
Love that vocal mix of Open Up, you feel that with the shouted vocal it just shouldnt work, but it does.
Which release on Discogs do you have? There seem to be edits and other rubbish floating around, would like the same version as in this set if you can find the link :D
Edit: Never mind, its on Beatport. Shoulda looked there first :D |

IN BRIEF: Well, he ca-
Oh, wait! We're not in the office, are we. ;)
So I took a listen...
'Tis a nice little mix here, my friend. I wouldn't worry much about your transitions, as they're serviceable in getting from track to track without disrupting the flow in any significant way. Supposed 'Best DJs' often get by with less. Considering the limited production you had available, it's most fine.
I have to admit it was quite fun hearing some of these old-time tunes again, back when progressive house actually still sounded a bit housey, and the use of ravey-rave bits weren't shunned upon. |

Yeah. One of my original intentions when planning this was to show just exactly what was "progressive" about progressive house. We had a couple of arguments in Music Discussion about what the term refers to, and this is basically my response to everyone who thinks that "progressive" means incremental development.
"Progressive" house was all about eclecticism and cross-pollination of other genres into house music's lexicon. Just on these tracks you hear dub (with Spooky), rock (Underworld, Leftfield, Fluke), cinematic music (Disco Evangelists, which samples from Apocalypse Now and Ennio Morricone's OUATIA score), contemporary rave and, inevitably, trance. That's what defined "progressive" house, and it's what the genre sorely misses today. |
