Detuned chordish lead sound - how?

I have desperately been trying to recreate sounds like the following: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]
. It is used a lot in Electro House and is the higher sound, not the bass underneath. It is particularly clear in the last example, infact thats the one I want.

It sounds to me like one of the oscillators is tuned at prob seven semitones up from the first, or the notes are a playing chord which consists of the root and a seventh, but i can't quite get the sound right and its doing my tree in!

What are the waveforms that are used for each oscillator? And what VSti would you use to get it? I use V-Station, Zebra, Vanguard and Z3ta mainly.

Thx.

Sound design is not something I am particularly good at understanding and with that said, the first things that come to mind are a saw wave with some FM and chorus effects.

Just for clarification purposes, the sound you want is that stab thingy that is at the beginning of the mix and makes a comeback near the end?

The VSTis you list are not in my inventory aside from Vanguard, but I do not believe that Vanguard can really do sounds of this timbre. I do use Rob Papen's Blue, which sounds like it can form this sound.

I could also be talking straight out of my ass... any other enlightening comments, people?

That sounds about right. Try adding a third osc tuned one octave up. Play around with the filter cutoff, resonance and envelope.

I played around for 10 mins and I got this I have no idea if this is the right sound cauz I cant listen to your sample (My fault) and that i'm a Noob too at sound design but maybe

loving that house clip anyway

Cheers for those replies. I think it sounds like a very clean trance like pluck with another layer a seventh and then maybe an octave above like you said Eldritch. Am still playing to try and get it right. BTW its the last example that is the most clear of the 4 tunes and is definitely the one that sounds best IMO.

This is my effort so far My crack at it!. I think I'm getting closer, its just the detuning that I need to get right. Been told on KVR that its basically 4 saws detuned by 4 cents or so against each other. Which would make sense cos it sounds like a trance pluck fattened up, which is made from a saw innit.

What I need is a 4 oscillator synth then really, any good ideas, which one to use for this?

That sounds pretty great! What instrument did you end up using for that? Mind elaborating on your creation of it?

Nah mate I don't mind at all, glad you like it. Its actually four instances of Predator, my favourite synth. It is basically these presets all from Bank 02: 028, 032, 067 are all the higher sounds and have their low end cut at just under 200hz to make room for the bass preset which is 058. There is some sidechain compression (of sorts) going on using the peak controller in fruity. You'll have to fiddle around with the octaves of each one to get the sound right, but thats the basis of it for ya.

Hope this helps.

LOL--I was actually kinda close! I recommended Blue, which is designed by the same guy, who did Predator. Plus, they're relatively similar. Good idea with the layering!

I just bought Blue and it kicks ass! I am definitely thinking that Blue will get closer than predator to the actual sound that I am after. Rob Papen definitely rocks!
