Virus TI effects in Cubase question

Hi,
I'm trying to work out how in Cubase you can assign effects individually to each instrument channel when using Virus Control. I'm a new Cubase user but have searched various manuals and tutorials.
It seems only possible to assign the affect to the instrument rather than to the midi channel. Therefore if I assign Camelspace to the Virus, the effect is there for all 16 instrument channels of Virus control.
With normal VST's you have a seperate VST for each instrument so that would be ok.
Also anybody else running Cubase 4 on Vista? It seems incredibly unstable crashing all the time especially when adding effects like camelspace. Could be my crap pc but Vista just seems crap itself. Once Cubase has crashed Vista won't let me kill the process without rebooting!! Bloody Microsoft!! |

You can't assign effects to midi, because it's data and not audio. And the virus only support two stereo outputs (There will be three in the next OS). You can activate the second output using the menu to the left of the Virus plugin in the VST Plugins window. |

Thanks for the response. Makes sense I guess although all this technology it seems there would be a way to do it!! |

I use Cubase and have a Virus Ti and wish there was a way to do what you are wanting because I have wanted the same, but there is no way to do this. The closest thing you can do is put midi effects on the midi channels because like Eldritch said, its just data, not audio. The best you can do is activate the 2nd Ti output so you have 2 to choose from and you can place effects on either. That is nice to know they are adding a 3rd in the next OS! |

Yes it's nice to know about the 3rd output in the next release. But one has to ask, if they can add another output just by a code release, why not go all the way and do it for each channel? |

Good point I was thinking this same thing... |

USB is not fast enough to have 16 outputs.. |

The Ti is USB 1.0 only so that makes sense. Maybe if it were USB 2.0? |

I just bounce stuff from the TI to audio then apply all the effects on the individual audio files. |

This is the unfortunate work around, yes. The 3rd output should mainly do the trick in the next version.
And ya, the reason they can't do all 16 is due to a USB bandwidth issue. |

actually it's a lot down to your workflow. i don't feel like i would need more than 2 or 3 sounds from the virus in one tune. imho it works better to have different synths which give different characters into a tune. this gives some more live into a tune.. |

Trust me if you've just forked £1200 out for a Virus you will want to use it as much as possible in your tracks. Anyhow it is a really versatile synth so it should be possible to create endless patches with different character!! |
