I'm sorry, but this really gets under my ing skin. I find it such an invasion of privacy...
Facebook, email, fine. I mean it's pretty much fair game, and honestly 99% of the time when I'm on my computer I LIKE to know what's happening around the city. Even if I get multiple facebook events for the same party, I still like to know who's promoting what/where, etc etc. I just delete the facebook msg. The point being, it's a medium to which I'm OPEN to promotion/marketing, whatever.
HOWEVER... sending me a txt msg on a Tuesday while I'm eating dinner for a club event that's happening on the Saturday is a ing joke. It's tacky, rude and ing annoying.
Do you guys ever reply to these txt msgs for guestlist? I'm really hoping this trend slows down... |

| I know that unsolicited commercial calls to your cell phone are illegal in Canada. I wonder if the same holds true for SMS messages. |

hell no. promoters who do this type of stuff r clearly on the bottom of the food chain. all i ever do is create an event, if im running a glist, it will be posted in the event. ill shoot a reminder 2-3 days before hand to remind them of the glist possibility (cuz lots of people are last minute). then day of the event, ill shoot a reminder saying whos name they'll be under and what the deets of the glist/event will be. |

As a promoter, text messaging is an important tool, when done properly.
If I send a text message, it's for a huge event (ie big DJ, long weekend party, my birthday, boat cruise, etc) so it doesn't get annoying to the receiver that way.
If you send a text every week about the same party with locals, it gets annoying. But when I text, it's for something big, so that's why texting is important to me...I don't dillute it by texting all the time.
I wouldn't send a text for something 5 days away either, people forget or get annoyed.
Send it the night before or in the afternoon the day of...it's a good last minute reminder.
But I can see where you are coming from jonjon! |

True that. Most providers offer unlimited incoming SMS messages now days. I remember having an argument with Telus Mobility's security division about the lunacy of charging for incoming SMS... technically it's possible to send a zillion SMS messages (untraceable if you know how) to known NPA/NXX blocks for a certain provider that will in essence result in an inflated bill if incoming SMS is charged. |

lol now I'm worried because I know you have my number...
Personally, I don't care if the party is happening at the Skydome and the promoter txt's me that day. IMO my personal cell phone is off limits... |

Hmm I don't think they charge for incoming messages anymore, I'm not too sure about that well for Rogers atleast... |

I agree, I started noticing last summer this text thing on a weekly basis from two promoters for their weekly club events and cruises etc but i never responded. I thought it was annoying as hell and I eventually text the promoters back and asked them to take me off their mass texting spree ...:) |
