if you don't need the preamps or i/o on the audiofire4, you could try an audiofire2 maybe. but yeah, many people on this forum own audiofires now haha, seem to be a good product (i've got one too).
it won't help with the overloading though. audiophiles have pretty good drivers already, so i wouldn't expect you could get much lower latencies on an audiofire.
do you understand how the buffer length to cpu load synergy works? higher buffer will allow less cpu load, but more latency. a lower buffer length will require more cpu load, but less latency. this is because the computer has to work more or less hard to prepare the audio in time. when the audio is not processed quick enough, you get an overload. however, it only works this way to a point. at some stage your cpu will be falling behind regardless of the buffer length. |

Today, I should be getting an Echo Audiofire 4 from UPS or better said, UBS. Although, I am more of an intermediate in comparison to some of the other guys on this forum, I can let you know how the Audiofire 4 compares to just using an integrated soundcard on one's PC. Since you are switching to a Mac now, I doubt that I can help you there.
BTW, did you get your name, "BulknSkull" from the show, Power Rangers back in the early 90s? If so, you are my hero. Man, I keep getting struck by nostalgia today. |

I agree with the Echo AudioFire recommendations. It's a great interface. |
