*sigh* there is no "ideal" software for trance just use what u like to use the most and make the most of it. For instance I use FLStudio and Ableton Live because I like the simplicity of them both against things like Sonar or Cubase. There is no specific software big time trancers use. its really completely across the board. If you would like a list of popular DAWs amoung trancers then here you go:
Project 5
FLStudio
Nuendo
Cubase
Logic
Sonar
Reason
Ableton Live
There are actually many more I'm sure but those are the ones you will most likely hear the most in the EDM scene.
Just remember that no DAW automatically makes your music good. |

| I can only speak for myself, when it comes to trance (or EDM) which is rather monotone and progressive throughout the song, a patternbased way of working is great for me and I've been doing so since 99 using Fruity Loops Studio |

| I used Fl studio 6 a good while ago but i never felt as if it had what all the other softwares had. I suppose its good in the sense that its easy to use but i never hear of any "big producers" using FL apart from the likes of deadmau5. But anyway cheers for the help guys :) |

Last I heard Maor Levi was using FL, and deadmau5 has switched to Ableton Live |

These artists use FL Sutdio:
Deadmau5
Breakfast (Got in the top 3 for track of the year 2007 on ASOT)
Maor Levi
Static Blue
Icone
Toby Emerson
Thats just to name a few though. there are many more. Also it does not matter what the "big producers" use. When you produce for long enough you will realize that with almost every DAW you have an equal opportunity to make music like what u hear commercially. You just gotta practice, practice, practice, and practice some more.
But as someone said before about FL's pattern based thing, this is completely true. Its very easy to work with dance music on FL Studio because of its step sequencer.
Since you say that u use Cubase what I would suggest to you is to Rewire FLStudio to Cubase and program your beats and SFX and things in FL Studio and let Cubase handle ur midi and midi effects. |

Don't go looking for software expecting your style to improve.
The software only really matters once you have already reached a fairly high standard. |

| How could a DAW be better for producing certain kinds of Electronic music? How does this make any sense? |

It doesn't, but you won't know that until you've tried a few different DAWs out or been told that it's the case, which is why he asked. What DOES make sense is that a DAW might be better for a certain person for a certain genre. Also, a different DAW might be better for the same person switching to a different genre. |
