hey guys, i'm going to be visiting from New York for business this week. i started to browse the visitors' thread, but unfortunately the search function is disabled at the moment. i'm going to be staying at the meridien king edward on king street east (thank you client) and was looking for recommendations for food in that area. being chinese and all, i'd also like to hit up chinatown and if anyone knows any good cheap places, that'd be appreciated too.
this might be a long shot, but is there a CHEAP way to buy leafs tickets? ticketmaster and stubhub aren't really helpful; i'm looking into tickets for the thursday night game against the scum (aka Islanders). thanks for all your help in advance. |

King Eddy ain't so great of a hotel.. the rooms are kind of run down and dated. :p
Lots of places to eat by your hotel. what kind of money are you looking to spend on a meal?
cheap leafs tix don't exist. I was looking at getting my father some for christmas. People were selling pairs in the LAST ROW of the upper bowl for $300+ :eyes: |

haha i guess the agent might have been misled by the meridien name then! i don't think price of meal will be much of a problem because client is on the hook for that also; i'm definitely perusing the fave food in toronto thread too.
guess i'm SOL on the leafs tickets! :( |

When was the last time you stayed there? used to work there and Meridian, and now Starwood, have pumped MILLIONS of dollars into renovations.
It's a class joint. |

rented two suites on December 1st for a DJ and his people that I had in town, and then gave it another go on the 26th with another DJ I had in town.
The foyer is nice, then banquet rooms were nice, the elevator was all scratched up and dirty. the hallway carpets and walls were all dingy looking. I noticed several stains as well. The rooms were really big with high ceilings which was great. Furniture was dated looking. Beds were nice. In one of the rooms on December 1st the heat wasn't working. One of the washrooms had several cracked tiles.
I've stayed in worse, and I've stayed in better. It's pretty middle of the road IMO.
Got a corporate rate on the rooms. Supposedly regular price for those rooms was $450ish... Def not work that, but I was happy with the deal I got.
and if it's free, then it's def worth the money ;) |

If you like steak, check out Barberian's steak house. It's on Elm St(I think) off of Yonge St, just North of Dundas. It's about a 10 minute walk from your hotel. I send everyone there! :D
Also, around the corner from your hotel is a place called Biff's Bistro. |

| i think the king eddy is pretty damn nice. the rooms we got on december 31st were clean. elevator didnt look run down but did show signs of use (kinda hard to keep everything brand new). the washrooms were nice. beds were nice. corporate rate was definitely a bonus. i dont think i would spend $400-450 on a room at ANY hotel. |

For the rate that we would get, it's great.. especially for downtown Toronto! ;) |

I agree on all of these points - I was there in a "party suite" for a stagette about a year and a half ago and noticed all of the same things. (Bathroom was pretty nice though) |

What a crock of .
The King Eddy is a relic of Toronto. It is supposed to appear older and "majestic". The service and ambience makes it worth every penny.
Stay @ the Westin if you want a generic hotel room. |
