The opening situation was ridiculous. Clovis got there at around 10 or 10.30 to start playing and they didn't even open the doors until sometime after 11. Some hip hop group before hand was supposed to end at 10 and Avalon just didn't get their together.
By the time we finally got in Clovis had been playing for about 40 mins to pretty much no one. They wouldn't even let people up into the terrace, what the hell was that nonsense about? One of the bouncers said it's because they want the main room to fill up more before letting anyone up. Cue about 30 people milling in front of the stairs trying to get up and causing a fire hazard. Bunch of ing nonsense, Clovis and Droog shouldn't have to suffer for the fact that no one wants to listen to DJ Reza. Gross.
Once that was settled and I was actually allowed to go check out my friend, I must say he did extremely well. Really nice vibe he had going on up there even if it was for only an hour (with an actual crowd :p). Avalon just needs to have Droog open the main room more often, that would really solve all those terrace issues. |
Hell yeah... completely agree!!!
Same happens when the Spundae DJ's host the terrace. They keep that closed off until midnight or "when the main room gets packed".
Its complete bull. Most of the people that come early, arrive early to support their local favorites, ie DROOG, Urban LA, Spundae, etc... it defeats the purpose if they close off the terrace, preventing those supporters from hanging out with their friends who are playing upstairs.
pisses me off... I would have thought they learned there lesson after the Sander K night...
Sorry for the rant |

It was a big let down for me personally.
I guess i went in expecting too much, or i anticipated too much. I am not sure, but either way i went home pretty upset to the point that i think i was kinda mad.
The beginning of his set/show was VERY good. He came out with some pumping tunes that had the crowd going, somewhere in the first 2 hours he dropped Body Crush with the main track/baseline being "move your body" its a remix of an old school house track.
After that, it was downhill...
I don't know if it was his ego, his repetitive looking at the sky, the constant pointing at the ceiling like if Jesus was there.
That plus the music, it was a big let down.
The last at least ~3, hours was all what IMO is "minimal house." The stuff u call "unfinished house."
And man, thats stuff goes no where in a hurry. I guess u have be beyond drugged up like the "washers" or drunk as to enjoy song after song of it.
No energy at all, it would take to long to drop and once it did only the "washers" were getting down.
I waited and waited and waited from him to redeem him self with some kind of good tracks, but in the end i didn't get . I didnt even wait to the end, at that point i didnt care what track he was going to finish with.
Maybe he finished with Body Crash by its self not dubbed with another track, but i don't even know i left at around 6am. |

See, that's why I went from loving him to hating him around last year. He's just completely different. I don't know what happened. Why did he think he could just stop putting effort into things and get cooler? :conf:
I will never forget the amount of sadness I felt when I saw he and Seb at Global Gathering last year. I expected at least a decent compilation of good music that I had heard all that day, but upon seeing them I just felt like I'd been lied to. They played tracks that were over two years old, and the ones that were new were all over radio 1. They both kept acting like what they were doing was the , including Steve on the mic telling everyone who he was over and over and over and over and over and over and over... And the thing that got me the most was when Steve got on the mic and asked the crowd, DO YOU LIKE MUSIC?
That's when I got angry. That's when I was thinking, "Yeah, that's why I paid so much to get in here. That's why I took a train across the country to see you. That's why I'm standing here. SHUT THE UP, AND PLAY THE DAMN MUSIC."

Same happened here in SF! He came out rocking but slowly started slipping away! When he FINALLY played Body Crash it was some wack rmx! I would think twice before seeing steve again-I had such high expectations for him to drop all the stuff on the "cutting edge" of house |

I should be down there that night. I'm not sure... I know that as a group they play much better. Axwell kind of lead the team last wmc, and I wouldn't be surprised if he did this time. I still am not so sure though. :( |
