An uplifting track has to have many different attributes working in conjunction with each other. Not only does it have to have an uplifting chord pattern but also has to have something in the timbre of the instruments and something in the pattern that they are played. On top of all that, to make a track truly uplifting you must have varying dynamic elements and a decent overall mix.

A flat mix will kill the euphoria or uplifting feeling as will lack of dynamics.

No.

There is no manual that states what chord patterns are considered uplifting. it has ALL to do with the interpretation of the listener. (what melodies that are uplifting to the individual listener)
Mr Kre8
I would have to disagree. There are melodies and chords that work and there are melodies that don't. If a particular track has an atonal chord pattern then it will never be uplifting. I'm not saying particular chord progressions are 'always uplifting' but there are progressions which are never uplifting.

its dynamic.. as in the riff AND the sound. whilst its the notes played in sequence that create the uplifting feel, they have to have an uplifing sound also.

i.e a fat sound with an uplifting riff could sound uplifting, but also funky. the same riff with a trancy synth patch would sound just uplifting

The secret is automation of the filters to make an awesome crescendo.

I'd say it's a combination of all three.

i would have to say the pattern being with chords rising or chords decending

The idea that the synth textures, song structure, percussive elements, breaks, hooks, filters, effects, or mixdown of a track can produce 'uplifting' is flat out wrong.
Also, I'm also fairly certain that just about everyone in modern world culture will interpret chord progressions as being happy or sad sounding the same as we do. Basically anyone who's hearing electronic dance music will understand western world music structure. So for practical purposes, a listener's mindset or interpretation while listening to the music theory in action is a moot topic.

Composing something uplifting is 90% to do with using the right chords in the right combination. Other aspects can compliment this, such as a good synth patch, an exciting song structure, or whatever but without the right harmony and melody patterns, you wont uplift anyone.

According to Manuel Schleis he said in his Vengeance Forum (German spoken but sometimes English) that the trick is "Time".
Year by year you were praticing and you ears will becoming mature..
You must mix correctly, choose the right synth sound, add all the effects correctly, it's a question of all, you must know about all.. And to become a pro with vintage status and an uplifting sound is not easy.. Time after time, time and time..

But you do not have to be experienced 10 years or more to get rocking in your time. Today all the biggest minucious works are simplified with up-to-date samples collections that are already eqed and compressed like Vengeance samplepacks. (Imagine you sequencing and constructing from 0 that kick bombs, the loops that you use backside, sampling noises that coming from your kitchen.. )
Also you can do your own pre-mastering just using an eq and a compressor at the master out..
