And at 19 babe, that is EXACTLY what you should think :) and at least for the next few years.

Don't close your mind to it though, you never know ;)

This is exactly what I was going to say. And further if you don't believe in it, I'm not sure whether or not one can ever experience it.

Spending your life with someone will inevitably lead to a situation/event where one or both of the partners may make a mistake withouth thinking. So they disappoint you once and you're gone? What kind of love is that?

If there is love, and it is true, then sometimes there MUST be hate. A love without hate is just delusional. Its not that you hate them as a person, but hate a specific part of their behaiviour, or some of their actions, or whatever, and your love is what is supposed to give you incentive to get through your problems.
EvilTree
One of the most beautiful passages from the Bible

1 Corinthians 13:4-6, 13

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Anger, disappointment, or hating what the person did to you - ya
Hating the person - NO

b) don't love them at all and are infatuated with them or just physically attracted to them

Loving someone means you CAN'T hate them

Very interesting way to look at it; though I believe we are just discussing the semantics, although the emotional element is the same. Sometimes the negativity and frustration I feel towards the person, if it's not managed properly (by myself or lack of proactivity or care from my partner) would result in temporary hatred, like I don't even want to see the person. But that's only a short moment, and even feeling that heart-wrenching hate for one millisecond means you've felt it (which I have) so that's why I agreed with the above post.

I can't say I'm fully convinced about the "purity" you're describing; again, I think that's all semantics and the degree of emotions that people feel when they are "in love" is relative.

You're saying the same thing as Vrk but for some reason I connect with this description a little more (probably because you're not defining love as much, and your description of what love is supposed to do is BANG ON imho!! We def see eye to eye on a lot of things, zoki! :) But I still don't think the hate I feel like when I've said before, "I HATE IT when you did that" I know I felt in my heart that I wanted to say I HATE YOU RIGHT NOW FOR MAKING ME FEEL THIS WAY, but of course I don't. But that's my point.

I can't believe I'm even slightly agreeing with this monkey doodler.... however...

This love/hate business totally transmits into reality, at least for me. I think it depends largely on what sort of a person you are, but I know that I can't have a relationship with a guy unless we argue about ... mostly mundane things - but that kind of passion has to be present. Also because I dislike yuppy idiots with no spine.

In my case, a relationship ended a few years back and I knew that I wasn't over him because when we would talk occasionally (post break-up) all these passionate feelings of hate would arise in me. He would say and do things that drove me absolutely ing crazy.
That hate = feelings that are alive and kicking.

The opposite of love isn't hate. It's indifference.

I love that and I want it on a plaque. I saw it in that mall in London, where they had these massive wooden plaques with beautiful phrases, and I saw that but it was like $60 for a piece of wood with words on it.

If anyone knows where I can find that in Toronto (preferably less than $60) PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!! :)
