I don't think guns are the problem at all. There's something culturally at fault here.

I hate to come off as a FOB, but I was just thinking, why doesn't this happen back in Poland? Unless you can bribe a university, your chances of getting in are significantly lower, most people are poor, school's more difficult, parents hit you when you were a kid, etc. I mean, how the hell do you justify picking up a gun and killing a bunch of people?! Where does that come from?

guns are a cultural thing hun, do they have legal kalashnikovs in poland???

Um, no they're not. They're probably more legally and/or illegally available in other countries.

Taking care of guns to solve school shootings is like giving Pepto-Bismol for hunger pains instead of food. There's a different problem at hand here. Young people deal with much more stress than their parents did, independent of cultural background. I think there's a huge failure of recognizing that.

I think elucidating this problem begins with sociologists and psychologists. Taking away guns is a superficial solution to a much deeper problem. It may work in the short term, but it's not efficient in the long run.

i agree on the cultural thing

i used to think it was just the media but im in Riga right now watching it all over CNN and BBC and i doubt there are many school shootings here.

my theory - its a certain generation of parents that f'ed up (I mean, a greater frequency of such parents) and that's why we're having more shootings now. their kids have grown up and they are ups.

hmm.. where are you getting that info or opinion from about other countries? surely TV violence could be a cause.
