well, i guess to be fair...
the title of the thread reads "i see tiesto is slipping in the polls"
but then the first statement claims he hasnt had any good shows lately except for that at the bill graham...
so are we argueing that one has nothing to do with the other?
anyway, there are guys like fat boy slim who may not even break top 75-100 but would cost a fortune to book...and many others that do nothing to campaign for votes...i get that. All i am saying is that it does mean jack to alot of the top acts, BUT agreed it has no impact on quality of music production or DJ skills
ps im bored |

| i'm pretty bored too, this celebrity all-star game is making me want to kill myself. i get that dj polls mean a lot to some djs, my point was it should mean nothing to anyone who isn't profitting off of it. i'd love it if someone conducted an exit poll outside of vanguard or avalon to see how many paying customers actually voted in djmag last year, then conducted an exit poll on djmag to see how many voters actually go out to the club on the weekend. i think you'd find a strong positive correlation, meaning the djmag readership isn't the group filling the clubs. what percentage of asot fans for instance are underage keyboard warriors who spend the weekend at home voting for armin rather than filling the club when he's in town? how many people in south america don't surf the internet, but pay good coin to sell out concert-sized edm events out there? there are so many ways in which dj polls mean nothing... |

i agree, but i also remeber when i first starting going to the 21+ clubs i thought is was pretty cool i was seeing the #3 DJ in the world went i went to circus. I kept telling my friends, i am going to go see the #3 best DJ in the world. And i remeber more friends wanting to come check it out once i mentioned Armins place on that poll. So i think you may be surprised. It is one of the first things newbies are introduced to when following global dance music.
everything is about marketing in this business, bottom line. Proper management can make an international DJ out of any local douche, and that poll helps them do it |

It WAS all about Tiesto at Avalon 2x and Tiesto NYE at the Palladium! Oh but that was so long ago. :sadgreen: *sigh* |
I loved Tiesto at both of these events.......
......oh, not because I saw his shows, but because I scalped both shows and made bank! I truly appreciate all of the little noob trance-heads who are willing to pay 4 times face value on the tickets to see this guy. |

The Palladium show was the fastest $800.00 I ever made scalping in my life (took 10 minutes to scalp 8 tickets).
And a few years back, when GIANT was at Avalon, and Tiesto played on 4th of July, I picked up another $400.00 ;)
Thanks Tiesto!! I love you, man!! :D |

Yah, that's when he was being booked in to Venues that were too small for the number of noobs (I mean "fans") who wanted to see him. Now, with this whole football stadium-sized concert thing he has going on, a guy can't make a buck off the bastard anymore! :whip:
The only thing that sucked about that NYE Palladium show was that I foolishly turned down the chance to buy 4 additional tickets at cost, because I didn't know how fast the scalping would go and I didn't want to be stuck out there until midnight. I could have picked up another $400.00 had I known it would go that fast!
Oh well...I can't complain. ;) |
