why are 99,9% of all music/film studios (and dj setups) powered with Macs? a coincidence? marketing? i think (though i never actually worked on a mac) that Macs are more suitable for pro-work like music production/djing since they are told to be more reliable and for stupid mcdonald-eater-and-shakira-in-ipod-listener because they are easy to use. you have everything you (stupid chicken brains) need like browser, photo, mp3, mail and garageband for the talented emos. its like a XBOX vs PC. the graphics are worse but you need not install anything. real plug&play.
PC, on the other hand, takes some time and brain matter to setup and tweak correctly, install a bunch of 3rd-party apps, add/remove components, a few reghack here and there, backup the logical drive... but at the end of the day the PC gives you more possibilities, like a 6 speed manual gearbox vs lazyass automatic. imho :)

if you knew what your talking about, high end studios dont use macs. they use specially made pc computers. these machines usually run a *nix flavor. ILM is a great example. the ONLY studio that MIGHT is Pixar, but even last i knew they didnt use macs. they arent as "badass" as most would think. they are targeted at the uninformed.

Nearly all music studios I've seen run off of Mac Pros. Nearly all superhuge producer/DJs that make music use MacBook Pros. He knows what he's talking about. But there is always an exception ;)

The main reason so many producers use Macs is probably that recent versions of Logic (7.0 and up) run only on Macs.

I'd be interested to know if anyone can give a reason why Macs in themselves are better for audio processing, i.e. why they are better apart from the fact that one of the most widely-used programs (Logic) is exclusive to them.

Tell that to the people who run Cubase and Ableton.

the whole stability claim is a crock of . mostly cause i know for a fact studio machines arent online. so they arent subject to certain things. its quite easy to get updates from the admin machine to the studio machines. also windows xp is VERY stable comapared to previous OS'. i can keep my machine stable as hell if i dont install more than a couple programs in the lifetime of the machine. and since i know that studio machines dont have things changing constantly like a consumer machine the whole stability thing really becomes more a crock of .

I haven't found Macs to be very stable at all. At least not compared to my PC.
