You're kidding...
Look, I like Nick Warren just as much as anyone else, but I actually rather wish they ended his stint with the City Series with Paris.
Reykjavik was supposed to be his last GU comp, then he came out of retirement with Shanghai, which made everyone happy, then went on to take on their milestone 30th release with Paris...which would have ended his involvement with them on a very classy note, and also marked the point in which they began to further integrate fresh faces for subsequent releases.
Although I can't say I'm not excited about this (come on, it's Nick Warren!), it sort of feels like taking a step backwards relative to the direction the label had taken since GU:30. Maybe people found Freeland's and Lyo & Bushwacka!'s installments to suck, so they went ahead and reverted back to the tried and tested competency of Nick Warren.
EDIT: By the way, where did you hear about this?
EDIT 2: Oh, I see it now- just caught his blog entry:
| quote: | | Hi there, I'm compiling a new Global Underground for release September 08. If you have any tracks you want me to hear please get them to me at my usual address or [email protected]. Cheers Nick. |

PL - I agree with you on almost every point- he has consistently delivered the goods. As to which direction the GU flagship series is heading (probably a few clicks south of nearest black hole methinks), I'm happy with a new Warren GU. Christ, makes me cringe what Felix the Houscat comes up with. L&B's sucked eggs and Freelands was e as well. Really makes me wonder what AndyGU is thinking. So much phenomenal undergroud talent out there, and most isn't just prog. Really seems like they are trying to move as many units as possible with the advent of a big name. If they would only realize that making the underground accesible is what put them on the map in the first place. Just look at the Balance/EQ series - best on the market and done with hardly any promotion. Pull your head out GU and get back to what put you on the forefront of dance music in the first place!!!!! |

Very true- I really think the Balance and Fabric series' have effectively undermined GU's reputation as the flasgship purveyor of 'underground' dance music.
The talent line-up GU has enlisted has always been of the finest quality, but most of them are already supported by extensive promotional histories, whereas Balance and Fabric tend to look beyond the obvious in order to further promote some equally, if not more talented faces with more diverse styles. In addition, Balance and Fabric churn out releases with far more frequency than GU (especially Fabric), and despite the frequency of these releases, they're all good to EXCELLENT! |

That would be unfortunate because I happened to like Freeland's GU. It was nice change of pace from the Nick Warren/Deep Dish rotation. |

Does this mean a Deep Dish reunion is set to follow by New Year's?
