Eduardo broken leg: Your opinion.

In football breakages happen, and in some situations I don't think any punishment should be given after the game.
But looking at this tackle, which may possibly end this players career, what should be happening?
Was it accidental... I think so.
But should there be punishment for the fact that it was so badly mistimed, and that it did end in such a horrible result.

As a Croatian and a Gunners fan, I'm am absolutely distraught and while I'm totally pissed off right now, I think it shouldn't be a ban.

In saying that though, 3 games and a weeks wage is an absolute joke. Maybe the tackle wasn't malicious but Taylors weight is obviously on his back foot which is indicative of the classic "stomp" on the ball with his studs up.

The FA and even FIFA should be much tougher on challenges like this. It was a bad tackle regardless of intent and the penalties should be much tougher.

Hopefully they start making examples of careless challenges like this. A life ban is excessive and not needed in this case but the penalty should definitely be big.

Eduardo seems to be recovering ok. It looked terrible from the pictures and videos and looked like it could be career ending, but the surgeons have said he is recovering well and the biggest risk is infection in the first 6 weeks. After that, in about a year he should be back to full form.

Totally ruins our Euro dreams now though. While we do have a good team and will find a way to fill that gap, it just won't be the same and no doubt missing Eduardo will have a significant mental impact on the players.

Anyone that's Croatian knows exactly how I feel. I'm literally close to tears.

After finally watching a better clip of that tackle, it was more of a clumsy tackle than anything else. The refs don't have the luxury of having instant replay and just carded Taylor because of what happened to Eduardo.

I originally thought the same thing, but then I watched the replay. It was more of a freak accident coming from a clumsy tackle than malicious intent. He was definitely going for the ball and unfortunately for Eduardo, his leg happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. (It was really not fun to watch that replay, trust me on that one).

Poor Eduardo :(

Studs up onto a foot planted in the ground this is always the result. Professional players know this, thats why they should never go in studs up.

Go back and look at Larsons double break though. And a few years later he's left Celtic playing for Barca and Man U. There is hope.

Indeed. Check out gun defenders like Maldini and Nesta. You will never ever see them go in with studs up, simply because they know how to tackle.

tackle, regardless of intent, was pathetic and poorly timed to a fault. studs up, weight on backfoot.

redcard well deserved.

that being said, happens, especially at a professional high-paced league game like the Premiership. it's not taylor's fault he's slower than da silva and certainly shouldn't be punished beyond the suspension.
