STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Campus police at Stony Brook University on eastern Long Island are investigating a report of a man with a handgun on campus.
There were no reports of shots being fired.
An alert on the university Web site says a young male "fled the Student Activity Center Cafeteria and later displayed what was reported as a handgun."
The man, about 25, was wearing a black coat and black wool hat and fled in the direction of Harriman Hall.
The advisory says University Police were searching the area and investigating the report.
A man answering a telephone at the campus police office declined to comment. |

this is BS. Most of the people I spoke with, including myself, never got any sort of Emergency Alerts. And we're signed up for e-mail and text message/phone call notification.

I'm listening to NPR and they have the theater prof. from NIU on today.
His discreption of the shooting,
"I felt like I was in a high budget movie, it was all so surreal, I mean the helicopters and everything cost way more than my theater for the entire year"
