Activision Files Trademark for 'DJ Hero' (pg. 2)

I don't really think these games are as much about the play as they are the music...or for people like myself who could never play an instrument but now have a chance to at least pretend to. Pretending you are playing a guitar with a broom just isn't the same as playing guitar hero.

When will people get bored of this game? All of these games are the same. You run through hallways, collecting items and shooting bad guys. Same game, Doom, Wolfenstein, F.E.A.R., Quake etc. WTF? How many times can one person re-invent the same game?

I could see beatport jumping in on this one quite nicely.

FPS games are basically simulations. There's an endless number of possiblities with this genre because they're not bound to one tired, money making formula, ie 'press the corresponding coloured button to the beat and feel like a rock star".

I will preface this by saying I LOVE fps', ever since the days of Wolf3d shareware, Catacomb Abyss, and System Shock....

But it's still just going around shooting people... If not in a hallway, in a jungle... or spaceship... or apocolyptic wasteland of a future... It ALL revolves around going around shooting baddies. Just because the environments and technology have gotten prettier, doesnt mean its strayed from what an FPS really is.

So theres a story or puzzles? Fine, that means you have to pick up a specially hidden key to unlock a special door, where you will find... you guessed it... more baddies to shoot... all culminating with a poorly acted cutscene to give you just enough story to get to the next level of shooting and collecting. Its formulaic... you CANT deny that.

The fact that you say the "button mashers" are part of a tired "money making formula" without acknowledging that FPS is indeed a "money making formula" as well is laughable...

Sure, you have gems... but for every GOOD fps, there are 5 HORRIBLE ones all capitalizing on the FPS [money making] formula!

The point is... ANY genre can be broken down to it's elements for criticism... that doesnt mean that a formulaic game can't be great! [HL2, JK2, Q2, D2, HL1]

have you played portal? there are no 'baddies'.

what's laughable is comparing these two generes in the first place.

btw your avatar looks like goatse face

If theres no baddies to SHOOT then how can it be a [F]irst [P]erson [S]HOOTER? More along the lines of a FPP (first person puzzle) = different genre = not related.

Plus, I'm not comparing the genres themselves... I'm just saying that they both have a simple formula that they can be broken down to.

you shoot portals, with a portal gun... kinda like how your argument just shot itself in the foot.

sigh... at it's core it is a puzzle game. It is a puzzle game with a first person interface.

Regardless, lets consider it then... youre talking 1 game out of hundreds that is unique... talk about shooting feet.

lets backtrack. my original point was that all of these guitarhero-types games are basically the same and that comparing them to the immersive, diverse and constantly changing fps genre is retarded...

why are you arguing with me again?
