lets backtrack. my original point was that all of these guitarhero-types games are basically the same and that comparing them to the immersive, diverse and constantly changing fps genre is retarded...
why are you arguing with me again? |
I was saying that if you break it down to it's core elemnts, FPS all are essentially the same, in much the same way that you say all the color-matchers are the same. As far as "diversity" goes... you mentioned ONE.. .countem ONE that strays from the shoot badguys + collect items + get to next checkpoint formula. One... what about;
Doom 1-3, Quake 1-4, Wolfensteins, Half Lifes, Duke Nukems, Call of Dutys, Unreal Tournaments, Halos, 007s, Rainbow Sixs, Tribes, Hexens, Crysis, Far Cry, AvPs, America's Army, Day of Defeat, Counterstrike, Battlefield XXXX, Team Fortress, Bioshock, Ken's Labyrinth [et al that was spawned by that engine], System Shocks, F.E.A.R., Stalker, Perfect Dark, and more...
You mean to tell me that you don't see a unifying formula for all those? That is my question to you.
Look, I agree with you that all the color matchers can feel the same... Theyre all basically the same [hit a button at the right time as it passes by the screen.] But you can't deny that [EXCLUDING PORTAL] all [most] fps follow a same very basic formula... that being shoot baddies, collect stuff, reach next checkpoint... that is all. |

to break it right down...all video games are the same at the core....bush buttons...collect stuff...go to next level...repeat. |

Exactly, but the point I think phlog was making was that in GH/RB you don't need to break it down. The games are IDENTICAL except for:
a) music
b) controller
Save for the positioning of the arrows.
It's a large stretch to call two FPS games identical unless you break it down to the basics, like Gen3r4l1ty did.
As for the DJ Hero game, I'm not quite sure how it would work either. Trance DJs make transitions every 6 minutes, the rest of the time they just stand around, smile, and clap. Is that going to be part of the game too?
"Hit A repeatedly to jump up and down"
"Hold B, and swing the controller up and down to perform Jesus pose*"
*I hate the term (because I think it has nothing to do with Jesus), but I am using it for comedic purposes. |
