People go to clubs to drink and dance and have a good time or listen to DJ playing? |
Often they go for both. But it puzzles me that you seem to assume people have to drink in order to dance and have a good time. |

Is it really that inconceivable to you that people could have a great night without alcohol? |
It's not the question whether you could have a good time without alcohol or drugs for that matter, but the question is why would you ?
People change behaviour under influence, some to better, some to worse (unfortunately) but it all leads to a more 'interesting' experience. If I go out, I drink no matter what, like when you go shopping you go to a store; it's just an association, with that said I had gone out without drinking but I didn't enjoy it as much because sober you keep your guard up where as say drunk you never know the outcome. |

No its not an assumtion.. you asume that.. majority of people who go to 'clubs' and 'discs' or 'pubs' assume that.. that they will have one nice "Beer", "Shot", "Tuiqilla!!", "Punch", "Margentini" or whatevar its called.. "Blody Marry" or something else..
They assume they are not going to get a 'Coffee-Jenela' or have 'Ice Tea'..
Use a little bit of common sense.. |

I suppose I started this thread to float the idea that different sorts of drugs might lead to different sorts of party atmospheres. I think that a party where the most common drug is alcohol may have a different vibe from one where the most common drug is ecstasy, for example.
I'm not trying to ask something like, "What if every last person there was sober?", because (a) we all know that's never going to happen and (b) I think drugs can be a positive thing for many people in some contexts. I'm certainly not on some kind of general anti-drug kick.
But I think that alcohol does change the setting in a few ways, at least one of which is not entirely positive -- as the article on the Paradise Garage says, in clubs that serve it, the managers generally keep people there for just as long as the law allows them to serve alcohol, and then they quite swiftly and forcefully start kicking everybody out. And they have every financial reason to do this, since drinking is their big cash cow, and once that dries up, they no longer have any economic reason to keep the place open, being unable to extract much more money from their patrons.
So I was wondering how EDM events and parties might be different if that sort of dynamic didn't even exist. |

| Afterhours clubs in Montreal serve 0 alcohol and its basically the only type of venue in town where you get massive extended sets (like Danny howells for 12 hours...and ironically enough the club Stereo was designed after the Paradise Garage originally by Angel Morares.) Some people do drugs of course, but not all. Its an amazing vibe because people are there to have a good time and dance, and you tend to see less of the pretentious bull you see in clubs that serve booze. Many people take disco naps, wake up at 4 am to go party without any drugs needed. (Headliners usually get on a 5am.) |

Social outcasts are often of the opinion that they must have a drink before being able to loosen up with their inhibitions, thus being able to have a good time.
There's a word that sums up this sort of behaviour, and that word is 'reject.' |

| If I go to see a big dj and pay good money to do so, I will not drink. I want to have a clear mind to be able to enjoy the music which is what I'm there for. I always see the drunk/high people at these events and have to ask, "Why?" I guess it depends on what your purpose of going is. Do you want to hear the dj and enjoy the music, or do you want to get trashed and party? I wish people that want to get wasted would go elsewhere. I can have fun without alcohol and definatly drugs and don't understand why people feel the need to get trashed. |

| I never drink when I dance, it just gets me dehydrated faster and I go all out when I dance so I need tons and tons of water to keep going. All beer and alcohol seems to do, at least at the clubs I"ve been to, is lead to fratty douchebags mock-raving you on the dance floor (I have not been to a SINGLE club when my raving has not sparked some guy to do the robot to make fun of me). |
