It's all mental.

You're fighting against your mind. Don't give in.

Used to smoke like half a pack years ago, but not no more.

I need a smoke now.

I quit cold turkey. It took a looong time for me to be able to do that, but once I was ready to, it worked. I went from about 10 cigarettes a day to 0. It was difficult for the first few weeks, but I am okay now. Sometimes I allow myself to smoke when I am at a bar or club, but I do not feel the urge the next day to go out to a store and buy a pack of cigarettes.

Dallas Star quit with hypnosis, so maybe she can give you some more information on that (though I haven't seen her post on here in ages).

See I'm where you are right now. Today is my first day of having quit cold turkey (did it once before but after 4 months I went back to smoking :() and I smoke about 10 a day as well. The only thing that's scaring me is the withdrawals, usually I get headaches and feel panicky but I know it's only the first 2 weeks I have to get through. :(

Yeah, I went through the withdrawals. Hahaha actually I think I was very moody since I quit (I am sure everyone thought I was PMSing :p), but as my cravings went away, so did the moodiness. You have to do something every time you feel like a cigarette. Call a friend, eat something healthy, clean, etc. Make those two weeks rush by and you will be fine.

Remember, it's all mental :)

Instead of focusing on the negative feelings/emotion of "dreading withdrawal", "the drive to work", etc. choose to focus on being healthy, and start visualising what that would look like. See yourself hanging out with friends, playing sport, being with a loved one, whatever it is and feel the feeling of being there.

The reason why many people don't stick with their goals (and I'm referring to goals in general, not just quitting smoking) is because the belief in the end state is not strong enough.

Tood Beeler talks about this stuff in The 7 hidden Secrets to Motivation.

Don't forget to celebrate successes and milestones too, no matter how small they are. Even if it's a day without smoking, call somebody and say "I did it!", then after a month go to dinner, whatever it is the more you reward yourself the more you reaffirm your ability to change.

So I agree with Yohan 100%, it's a mental game and the only one you're fighting is yourself. Good luck.

Well my first day is over, and i can honestly say that "i did it"... I almost tore my boyfriend's head off... but day one has almost come to an end!
I think that "celebrating successes" is a great idea. It could give me an incentive to stay smoke free.
Thanks guys!
