having a laptop problem

I dont know what's wrong with my USB but it doesnt seem to work anymore. My computer reads that my USB is there however whenever i enter a device into the USB slot, i get a pop up message that says the USB device malfunctioned and its not recognized. I tried uninstalling all my drivers and rebooting but that didnt work. so i decided to format my comp and that didnt work.
Im outta ideas here. i even downloaded a new chipset driver from the Gateway website, and that didnt work.
anyone know the problem and what i can do about it? |

| Have you tried....other usb devices? Maybe that 's (the end device) broken. |

| you might have dust in your port or something, happened to me on my old laptop. |

| yeah ive tried other devices same ....i dont think i have dust in it either. though u never know |

| could be the usb port is broken. do you have more than one port? |

download the latest BIOS revision.
If updated BIOS + drivers don't fix it, your hardware is fried. |
