They are bad to use on leather, they will remove the pigment from the leather right along with the stain

We've got one of those in our family too - though the difference in age is only 12 years, not 17 ;)

My little sister rode in the back of my VW this past weekend, on the way to the aquarium. she got a hold of a magic (permanent) black marker and drew a couple of smiley faces and tried to spell out my name before i looked up in the rearview and caught her.
now i didn't get mad, she's only 7 and didn't know the backseat of a VW is not a whiteboard. but seeing how i was visibly upset by her actions she apologized, and she's an angel so of course i dismissed it quickly and told her to ask before she does something like that next time.

to cut a story short: how the hell does one get permanent marker out of leather? i don't want to use something at home and make it set in more, or smear it all over the place. i need effective and proven methods please.

thanks!
Use her virgin tears.
