Today a French woman, Chantal Sebire died, they are investigating to see if the death was assisted.

Out of respect for the lady I'm not going to post her picture as I'm sure theres a few people on here who will butcher the thread with stupid comments.

I'll leave the google search to you the story can also be found on cnn.com. She was a healthy person who had been stricken with tumors in her face. Her face was quite disfigured, almost to the point it seems unbelievable.

She was not permitted to an assisted death legally in her home country.
Whats your take? is it right? is it wrong? does taking away the right to take our own life violate our rights and freedoms, when countries like ours and france are based on democracy?

Begin.

I think kids should be able to live on whatever continent they like.

In a seriousness, I'm all for it if it's consented and done in good concience.

I believe it all comes down to choices. Without them we have nothing. I would respect someone for the option they choose.

Our own life is the only thing we truly own.

As long as you are of sound mind when requesting assistance, I firmly believe it should be granted in the most painless and dignified way.

Obviously, the process would have to be controlled and psychiatric evaluations must prove sound mind. There will always be people who abuse this, that's the fear and probably the main reason it isn't legal.

I saw the pic of the woman and she looked like something out of Star Trek. She was hideous.

Assisted suicide... Well, I'm all for people doing whatever they want, as long as it does no harm to others.

Moral Hazard
I am so torn on this issue. My faith tells me that taking one's own life is a sin; however, my reason tells me that not all lives are worth living and there are situations where death is preferrable to life. Ultimately, I do not feel that it is the state's place to legislate morality and that this is something every individual should be allowed to consider and judge according to their own beliefs.

oh no, a double post... I should kill myself!

Yay, I'm a big fan of those suicide booths they had in Futurama:

If someone really wants to die, they will die. Might as well not get the carpet dirty. I approve.

i'm for it. if a person can't participate in life than how does that qualify living? when a person cannot physically or mentally participate they should have the choice to bow out of life gracefully.
