Yea I know it comes across as if I don't support locals. I really do and always want quality ones, but when you've got 4 internationals, there's really no need for locals on mainstage. |
Point taken.
I have to say though, I'm looking forward to the day when Melbourne gets a trance jock who can actually read the crowd, and play the right tunes.
Virginia Le, Gav Keitel, Dave Pham, Millson, Agent 86, Steve Bleas, Mike Callander, Boogs - Melbourne has great jocks in other areas, but not trance for some reason (sorry Steve Strangis if you're reading this).
In fact, I'd rank Agent 86 in my top five of all time for his style - the guy is incredible in almost any setting. |

At the moment there is too much whining about OMG MY FAVOURITE IS BETTER THAN YOURS, HE/THEY DESERVE 6 HOURS!!!
ffs flick the switch on the side of your head that says 'ON' and try and be realistic. a night like this needs progression! if you want your dj to play his proper style; then THIS IS HOW THE SET TIMES SHOULD LOOK:
10.00 - 11.00 Steve Strangis
11.00 - 12.30 Sander van Doorn
12.30 - 2.00 Menno De Jong
2.00 - 4.00 Above and Beyond
4.00 - 5.00 Mike Nichol*
5.00 - 7.00 John O'Callaghan
*Nichol is world class, thats where he should be on any lineup in the world. But it just so happens hes local. so, SUPPORT LOCAL TALENT AND PUT HIM THERE! |
Only problem there Nichol should play for at least 2hrs! |

locals off. Seriously, with a lineup like that I don't give a who the locals are. Nichol is good but he can't for the life of me compare with those other 4. Sif take away time from them to give locals a go. |

I don't think we have a decent trance jock in the whole of Melbourne (psy-trancers excluded), but I'm all for supporting locals.

I tend to disagree. Seen JOC a few times and both Menno & JOC a couple of months ago in Poland. The great thing about music is its subjective, however its plain to see that when the gloves come off and the first track starts, not many DJ's have anything on Mike Nichol; the above two included.
JOC is an amazing producer and has become a very good solid DJ of late, not exceptional however. Menno.. nice presence, good 'dutch trance' but once again on the dancefloor, no comparison.
Mike Nichol = Exceptional. |

I've heard Mike make train wrecks far too often to respect his technical skills. One night at Brown Alley in particular...I think it may have been the night Kuffdam played?
I don't care for his production, either. I bought all his first few tracks just for the support, but I hardly listen to them. Trash and treasure though; I'm not saying his production is bad, just not my thing.
Seeing as his sets incorporate a lot of his own stuff, you can see where I'm headed with this... |

After listening to the tune you just posted in the psy thread i think you should be keeping your "opinion" to yourself mate!
A word of advice, if you want to be taken seriously don't post unfinished work on public forums... :p |

Ouch.
:gsmile:
Seriously though, I'm not questioning Mike Nichol's production skills, so my own are irrelevant.
Besides, I know my production is , hence why I'm posting for feedback; to improve :) |

Maybe i was a little harsh, but the point is what you say on these forums is read by many people. so just think about who might be reading.....
Mikes a great dj and producer, your entitled to your opinion. Just don't go bagging out someone who is doing good things for the local scene because of a bad mix!
Yeah his tunes aren't for everyone, i love them so maybe i am biased. But don't you think it's better to embrace our local talent rather than cast them aside? |

Didn't I just say that I bought Mike's tracks despite not liking them?
If that's not support then I don't know what the is.
Yes, I'm well aware that Mike and several others close to him read and post on this forum; doesn't mean I shouldn't speak my mind. |
