I have a general dislike for a few of the all-ages promoters around here. I also had a bad experience with one of the more popular ones that showed me that they really, really didn't care at all about knowing who they're booking.
Then again, I'm pretty sure that the same can be said about every local scene. |

ding ding! damn...u hit that right on the head..
i know a few big local dj's that could care less who is being booked..
lets say a techno dj came strollin by n got booked...ud have tons of locals trying to get into the lineup knowing VERY well they dont know who the he is, or even spin remotely close to what he spins..
i hate going to clubs n hearing electro house, then trance, then commercial house then jackin house, then techno then hip hop then regayton...my gawd....give it a rest:nervous: |

This isn't personal, but a few local dj's had a fallout with a promoter when the latter failed to turn up the money cause the show tanked. There was a pretty nasty facebook thread with the level of material approaching the c0r that eventually got deleted, but as far as I know, the djs got dick in terms of profit plus had to pay their own travel expenses.
What is it about the promotion industry? |

My experience was pretty much the following...
01.) Flyered for promoter.
02.) Talked to the promoter often at as many of his shows I could go to.
03.) Repeated steps one and two for a few months.
04.) Asked if they were accepting demos.
05.) Made one and included (and these are important to the story) a tracklist, my name, and three ways of getting ahold of me. Gave to said promoter.
06.) Received PM on a local EDM forum from him, saying he didn't know how else to contact me and wanted to book me.
07.) Got booked, received no other information about the show other than a timeslot and a date.
08.) Weeks later, show is announced on forums. I'm opening for a Happy Hardcore DJ (at the time, a staple tune in my sets was Tigerskin - Neontrance). I was booked as 'idoru' which was my username on the local forums, despite my actual name being used on the demo.
09.) I spun. I didn't change my style just to please the kids who were there for Happy Hardcore.
10.) I will never forget the look on the faces of the sixteen year-olds after the build in Chelonis R Jones - Deer in the Headlights (Radio Slave Remix) ended. The look of confusion on their faces was priceless. :stongue:
11.) Promoter comes to the mixer during a transition and cranks my gains. I'm very anal about hitting red and he gave me a thumbs up once he sent it to full red.
12.) Obviously disgruntled, I didn't say to the promoter afterwards and just left.
13.) Saw the promoter the other day at a clubnight I'm currently helping put together. He scowled at me. :p
Why I decided to number that, I have no idea. It's almost 3AM and I'm groggy and out of it, so forgive me. |

Forgiven :p. btw, what is this track you're speaking of? and btw2: it still sounds like you got paid. was that the case?
I don't get something - is there some policy that guarantees DJ's their pay, despite the outcome of the show, something like a salary? Or is it a percentage that is based on overall profit? |

What track? There were two that I had mentioned. Name it and I'll send a sample your way. Also, I was not paid. No pay was ever discussed beforehand and I honestly wasn't expecting nor demanding to be paid. I really didn't want anything to do with them after the way they'd handled the situation, so even if I was supposed to be paid I would've just said, " it," and left without grabbing it anyways. |

| you could probably change the name of this thread to beef with promoters.as a dj i know a lot of them annoy me in my area.but there are definitely some djs here that are irritating and need to go. |
